Does anyone know a Edwin Earl Thompson in Burns Lake BC? I was trying to purchase a rifle off him through an ad on Gunnutz EE. I received pictures of his drivers license and his PAL. I have reason to believe that the person who posted the ad is not him. If I am right I would like to contact him or let him know what has happened.

Thanks so much hart!! And dawg and bchtv for getting to me so quick on this. Hope we jumped on it soon enough here. Called the RCMP, "I don't think there's much we can do, but I'll have an officer call you when one comes available". I'll keep you all posted.

I was just about to send the EMT but I could not send the whole amount in one transaction. So I called him up to tell him I would have to send the money twice over two days. I also wanted to know what kind of powder he used in this 300 win mag load, and when he said black powder, alarm bells went off. He also did not have a feedback score. I then googled a few key words and came up with the identical ad including the pictures from Phoenix Arizona.http://phoenix.backpage.com/SportsEquipForSale/custom-300-wm-w-kreiger-barrel-manners-stock-badger-bottom-metal-timney-2100/31709715

Hes only using an add from Phoenix- the cops there wont do anything.

CGN cant do much other than ban him.

I have seen a number requests from the DoJ (to obtain subscriber information of an IP address) issued under MLAT for much more petty crimes.

Maybe suggest it be sent to the computer crime division? I suspect they are more familiar with the processes involved.

Spoke with the RCMP, they will "do what they can". Imo, from our talk, that will be nothing. I reminded them that I know of 4 different people in bc that have been scammed by the same guy, 4 counts of ID fraud, and trying to sell firearms without a license. Next step, media maybe? What can a guy do to get them into first gear?

On a better note, a officer came in and told me my truck insurance ran out a week ago, no fine, that made my day.

A thought, should firearm exchange forums have a section for stolen ID's? It would be a good place to check and see if a seller is using a stolen ID. Then a guy could get on the scammer before he knows he's busted. I dunno, just something that crossed my mind.

If anything comes of this I'll fill you all in.

It is identity theft pure and simple. If the RCMP aren't interested maybe we could get the media involved. Also the bank refuses to give out info regarding what bank acct the e-money goes into--I would think that would be critical info and that the media MIGHT put some pressure on them. We all need to stop sending money on-line unless it's at least to a friend of a friend.

They absolutely CAN deal with this, but it sounds like they are not wanting to. I think they are just stonewalling.

I would seriously try and get it sent over (all related case numbers) to the computer crime division.

Computer crime section is so busy investigating kiddie porn they have no time to deal with fraud...

After speaking with hart yesterday afternoon, the scammer was still txting him trying to get him to bite. I called our local RCMP right away, basically said "we got him on the phone, you guys want to take it over from here!" I got a BIG, "there's nothing we can do". I asked for a number or reference to someone who could help me, a division that deals with ID fraud, I got a big "I have no idea". So frustrating!

I called the PG RCMP, I did get a couple phone numbers of people who may be able to help, but of course they'r gone until Monday. We will see

I hear you about getting the LEO's into 1st gear...it seems if something drastic happens and gets lots of media hype then they're all over it plus ...but it shouldn't have to come to that..IMHO

Tell them you were about to purchase a portable donut/coffee combination machine, then you'll get some action.

And people wonder why folks think the best way of dealing with things is without the law.Prime example, the law does nothing about this sort of thing.

Makes you laugh that the police can't or wont do anything about these types of crimes but they seem to have all the time in the world to stand at the side of a road with a radar issuing speeding tickets and seat belt fines to the everyday, hard working canadian..

Just mention to the police that the scammer's real name seems to be Achmad Mohamaud Fubar and he was also interested in trading for pressure cookers.

By that name and location maybe you should call the chief bottle washer of the tribe. Perhaps he'll get his Crush punch card taken away.

You guys lost me with a couple of them comments lol. I'd gladly pay another $1400 for an address, even a real name, I have a few numbers to call Monday morning, hopefully one of them will be of some help. I don't expect my $$ back at all, but I'm not looking forward to having to explain to the next guy that he got scammed just like I. It's bound to happen tho unless I find a higher power guy to take this on.

Call your local detachment ask for the Officer in charge explain to him the situation and tell him you are frustrated and have given up hope of any help from the RCMP so you are taking the whole mess to the media.

Thanks my next step Everett, I'm gonna try these phone numbers Monday morning. If I get no where, I will threaten with media, that might get the ball Rollin.

You might also suggest that you are going to confront the criminal yourself and place him under citizens arrest that always gets under there skin.

That it likely will. It will also draw their attention to YOU!

I'd suggest Not.

No Point in becoming yet another example of the victim ending up worse than the perp...

Good Luck with this pursuit! I Truly Hope this *^#* get's NAILED!!

A little update...... Nothin! Nothin at all, the only thing I get from anyone I talk to in the RCMP is "there's nothing we can do" reading between the lines, they'r basically saying that me, and the other fellows who have had our ID's scammed, are "small fish".

Another scam attempt on my ID again today, this time the buyer was from Ontario, he called in my PAL number and of course it came up as stolen. The scammer is using the same phone number as when hart was dealing with him.

I have another appointment on Wednesday at the RCMP detachment, I'm going to mention calling CBC about the issue and the lack of help from my local RCMP. Maybe by chance it may open they'r sleepy eyes. Iv been very understanding and polite so far, but I'm getting very angry about it all, especially since this new attempt on my ID today, and still, nothing happens. I'm loosing all hope in our BC RCMP.

Lol, nope it cost me $1400, plus another $80 to get a new PAL. So far the guys who he has tried to scam using my ID have been lucky.

The RCMP would rather give out tickets for not displaying an 'N' or give out speeding tickets at the bottom of a hill.
