So I've hunted black bear, moose, and deer. I always try and go during the rut. Im planning a hike in elk trip in September. I can go opening day or mid to late September. Does any one have any experience with elk behavior in that time? Up high in the elpine or low fields?
When is the actual rut? Any advice to a new guy?

Anytime in sept just giver ... the elk are where you find them could be high in the slides or crossing valleys down low to get to other's only one way to find out just go out there and Wing it

I have found that the first week of Oct last week of Sept has the best elk hunting for me over the last 8 years it seams that the elk get more into it when it cools off somewhat at least this is what I have noticed in the past 8 years low or hi elevations..
