Guys,

Looks like I might spend some time hunting deer and elk during archery season on the mainland. I'm hearing that I need to get a tree stand. What do you like/hate about either hang on stands or climbers? Which do you have, which ones would you recommend?

If you suggest a hang on, stand, then what steps or other utility do you use to get up the tree?

I need to put an order in pretty soon so any early advice would be great ly appreciated.

I have both a climber and hangon i tend too use the climber the most as it keeps me mobile. My climber is a lonewolf alpha sit and climb very good quality though pricey. My hangon is a Gorilla King Kong which i bought at Canadian tire it is a very solid treestand i would get climbing sticks screwing in steps is hard work.Cabela's has a great selection

My vote is for a climber. Much less hassle and way more portable - plus easier to set up and use.

Both, self-climbers are a lot noisier getting up the tree so if you're sitting in the same spot and have a ladder that's easy to set up the hanger is the way to go IMHO. If you're changing spots a self-climbers the way to go - lighter the better.
