Hey all

Went to Mable lake last weekend, and didn't get much. Its a bit of a drive when I have a lake like Kal lake 5 min from my door step. Was wondering if anyone could give me some pointers for the lake.
Thanks
Zach

P.S what's peoples opinion on Wood Lake

Hmmm Kal lake...apex lures...go a bit faster than you think is normal..the lure should spin one way...then hesitate...then back th orihinal way..
My favorite was the blue larger 3.5 inch ..
Cheers

Big lakers in kal, fish deep just north of kukuli bay. Rainbows are hit or miss lucky to catch one or two.

Wood used to be good for kokanee.

Used to pound rainbows in Kal years ago, about this time of year trolling with #6-8 green Spratleys. Cant see why much would have changed - might still be worth a try.

In April Cousins bay has great Laker fishing ! Some good bows too - Apex's and Witch Doctor plugs are what i used in Mabel and Kal Lake  RJ

Wood lake should be open April 1 to Aug 31 this year. Kokanee numbers look good but make sure you check the regs before heading out.

North of Kekuli bay, try a black apex, and or glow in the dark Lyman lure, we mostly found the fish in 80-100 ft of water, bounced the down rigger ball off the bottom to stir up the mud.

In the summer the fishing was best from 5:30 am to 9:00 am after that there were so many boats on the lake, the fish were nowhere to be found

Good advise, susprisingly 20-30lbs lakers down there.

they are easy to catch.
if they are marking on the bottom, they are holding, so stop and hold over them and jig.
if they are up 20 ft or so off bottom, then troll for them.
ours are consistently 24-32 lbs, but we've been into some that we could barely budge, we'd get a bit of line on them, then they'd sound right back to the bottom at will.
eventually, they would just start swimming away, peeling line off the spool.
