My buddy and I went shed hunting over the weekend and brought along a camera to film it. Like a lot of hunters, we are interested in making some hunting videos this year. Not for profit but just for our own memories. Any feedback is appreciated

pretty nice vid. edited tastefully. I can only imagine how much time it took you to take the video edit it and add music. all for 2 minutes of memories. but very cool none the less. looks like professional footage. with skills and patience like that you should end up with some quality hunting videos too.
looking forward to some this fall.........

Thanks for the comments guys. Probably have a couple more videos later this year. I am using a Canon 70D. The editing isn't that bad, this one took me no more than 2 hours, might sound like a lot of time but it flies when your doing it while having a couple beers with friends and telling hunting stories

Awesome video. It looks like fps is exported at a 29.97 framerate? which has a home video feel. Consider using 24 frames per second for a more cinematic look.
Looking forward to seeing more!

Hey Chango,

thanks for the feedback. I shot that video in 720 60fps in case i wanted to do some slow mo shots. I am very new to this but I think iMovie won't process 60 fps properly because when I slow it down to 30 fps it still looks choppy. sounds like you have some experience in video, any other tips for slow mo? Thats one thing I want to use more.

Any other editing software you would recommend? I heard the new final cut pro is a bit of a let down

Ideally you will want to shoot majority of your footage at 24 and edit at 24. For slow mo shots record at 60 and bring it down to 24. imovie is not good, I bet its choppy because its dropping frames to achieve 30 fps and trying to keep the same time length. I've worked a number of years at Pixar animation on Toy Story and Cars stuff, now at Sony Pictures, most of my experience isn't with live action but same principles/tools. I've always used Premiere Pro, lots like FinalCut. Both will be far better than iMovie and many free youtube tutorials. Also if you are filming with DSLR cameras look into shutter speed, it will have a huge impact on what you are after.

I think it is dropping frames, there is a way around it but I can't do it, not tech savvy enough. Thanks for the advice and the link, I will check it out and hopefully be getting better software soon

Great vid Great dog
Great shed

But... I gotta call you out. This looks set up to me. It looks like you got an idea to shoot this video and planted a shed and shot the video. Didn't look like you covered a lot of ground or there would be more variety in terrain.
And there is no shot of the huffing and puffing at the top of the hill.
Tell me if I'm wrong.

Not that you don't she'd hunt just mabey not when you shot this video.
Kinda looked like a canned hunt to me.

Keep the vids coming though thoroughly enjoyed it can wait to see that slow head turn and bright smile after you drop a big bull on camera.

Thanks for the comments. I can see how you may think that this was a staged shed hunt.

did we go for a shed hunt and take the camera? Yes
did we find the shed during the hike where you see it in the video? Yes
was I right behind the shed hunter when he spotted it? no I repositioned to get that shot cause it adds to the story telling

The whole idea for this video was to keep it under a couple minutes and not have any talking. We found the shed an hour into the hike in a small area that my buddy has been working for a year now.

We are just in the middle of editing our next video, a spring goose hunt. Stay tuned

Cool video, somethings have to be "staged" in order to tell the story. Some people don't understand the filming and editing process. Good job, and please share more.

dude, that's what editing does.
shit, all i saw was him driving down coldwater road, no footage of the LML or the snowshed.
see how that works.
