Just thought I'd introduce my new buddy Vito. He is a Catahoula from Catahoula ranch out in Mission. None of the super cool markings that you typically see with Catahoula's just solid black with a couple white marks. He's 4 months old now and he has been a real treat so far but I'm sure the worst is to come with adolescents. Can't wait to get him out in the bush for some day trips next september and hopefully get him used to a backpack for the 2016 season. He isn't scared of noises at all and has been comfortable since the first shot with a .22 and 30/30 so I'm fairly stoked about that! Anyways to the pictures.

Beautiful pup. I don't know much about them but every Catahoula I've Mt has been a spectacular animal. Congrats on your addition.

Whats their temperment like? Similar to most hunting dogs such as GSP's? Or? Cute pup!

So far he has been awesome. gets along with all other dogs and people just an all around happy dogs. infants and kids included. the only problem so far is he doesn't like to be put outside, he has anxiety it seems but there is starting to be progression with that the last week or so. He has been very trainable so far. I think he has the making to be a great bush dog with everything i've seen so far.

Never start your dog with gun shots, that includes cap gun's. Start with hand clapping, then a cap gun, then a .22, then something like a .410, then 20ga, then 12 ga. Because if you freak him out with gun fire it's going to be a real hard thing to fix!!!!!!!!!! And you might never fix it. So work up to gun fire . Gun fire has to mean something that's fun for the puppy. Do this part of it really slowly. Not that I'm a expert or anything but I'v had 3 started dog's over the years all by the same guy, and that's how he does it. He does between 40-60 dog's a year and that's how he does it, not all the dog's that he train's have to be gun conditioned because they are ready are, but the one's that have to be gun conditioned that's how he does it . Oh ya a great looking puppy, good luck.
