Hey guys,

Myself and two others have planned a 12 day trip to region 7 for moose and deer. We are putting in for a group moose hunt and are all first time moose hunters. October 1st-12th is our trip. We have no ATVs and do NOT want to road hunt. Don't mind putting lots of miles on foot.

From your guys experience what area would you recommend us putting in for a LEH? 7-11, 7-12, 6-1,5-13, 7-10.

Staying at finger lake most likely.

Any info is much appreciated. Thanks guys!

i'd wait until the new synopsis comes out before you do too much planning. different odds and authorizations might change your plans!

I will be one of the guys in potential group hunt with Nugget. It seems the LEH synopsis for last year became available online on march 19th so i would assume it would come out this year at a similar time.

Really looking forward to this trip! 5-13c, 7-11, 7-12a, 6-01 are all close to finger lakes.

With moose being the goal, what is the deer and bear population like in these areas? I heard of some whitetails being taken as well.

Cheers

tons of black bears. Some deer but pretty sparse. Lots of wolves too

I'd just go for it! What do you have to lose? New country, new experience, just plan it and go! Worst that can happen is a good time In the woods with friends!!there are every species you mentioned in those mu's. Moose and deer not quite as good as past years, but certainly not extinct!! Moosin

Deer and moose populations have plummeted in 7 the last few years. Tons of wolves and bears.

We used to see mulie 20 deer a day, last year I saw 12 in 3 weeks.

Staying at finger lake is good. I think you will still be putting miles on the truck to get to areas to hunt. 6-1 is a ways from finger lake. Some good areas to go east of there as well.

Very few deer in that area, lots of bears and wolves. The moose can be easy to find at certain times and temperatures. You will find ATV's everywhere.. Have hunted there for 35 years, generally done well, some years with odd weather patterns have driven the moose into deep timber in daylight hours to hide from heat...
Seeing more grizzlies the past 5 or 6 years.. Don't like those critters when out hoofing it!! Thumbs up on Finger Lake, nice folks, good spot to camp or cabin it...

Still a fan of 6-01.Been good to me over the years. All the other M.U,s will do the trick although deer may be a challenge?

Trip is already booked and set in stone!!!

Not sure where to put in for our group LEH though. Looking forward to the trip regardless.

Its funny, guys say the mulie hunting around those lakes is terrible, but I have found just the opposite. I bumped a bachelor herd of mulie bucks in July a few years back on the north side of finger lake. All 3 were bruisers!

If staying at Finger cabin, put in for 7-11. Got a beautiful mule on the north finger and passed on another. Reasonable chance on moose also. Hosts Wayne and Corrine are super nice folks.

My advice for hunting moose anywhere near pg in leh would be to get as far away from town as possible. I hunt almost every day all around pg in the fall so believe me when I say get way out there in the woods because deer and moose are almost non existent compared to what they used to be in the immediate PG area.
