My 3 hunting partners ( my kids) are all going to be in university this fall, two at home, one in Kamloops. It's going to be tough to include them in any big hunting trips for more than 3-4 days.

We are all experienced backpack hunters and are thinking we could do a few extended weekends for mule deer. We have hunted the Thompson-Nicola extensively and have lost much of our prime hunting areas to the Douglas Lake Empire, logging, and atv traffic. We still love the area but want to try something different.

We had a very successful trip up near 150 mile last fall, and thanks to Steve Rupp we all tagged out.

I am hoping for some GENERAL suggestions for general back country, high country, B.C. desert country that would have limited human pressure. I am not asking for honey holes, what fun would that be.

We have never hunted the Okanagan or Similkameen, and just a bit in the cariboo.

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Be Safe,

Chuck

I third that. The top end of region 3. Poison Mountain area would be a great place to hike.

You could try to get into some alpine south of Princeton. Never hunted much in that area but it's an idea

Good luck trying to find any alpine area in Okanagan that does have a logging road and or quad trail cut into it .

x2 and the few areas that don't are full of guys who think it's their god given right to rip up the alpine with their quads, side by sides etc.

How did you make out and where did you go? I'm heading up to Yalakom/Shulaps next weekend for 4 night backpacking for mulies....I'd be interested to hear about the trip.

That's messed up. I'd go back to horses and foot traffic any day. The fewer road warriors you get, the better a hunt experience it will be.
