I'm just trying to do some research I plan on buying a new vortex scope for my 300 wsm looking at the viper HS LR and the viper PST has any one on here had experience with both? I just want to know if the viper pst might be a little to much scope for what I need ... Just started doing hand loads 180 grain barns and want to be able to get out there a little further .. 6-700 yards

i purchased a vortex viper hs 4-16 from the one and only tbartell from that gun and whatnot selling site, for my 257bee. I asked him about the quality vs zeiss in the same category and he straight up said pretty much the same scope with a great warranty. being a zeiss guy i trusted his judgement and i have to say i agree with him. i do like the scope so far. that my 2 cents for what its worth.

x2. I wouldn't subject my eyes to the pain of looking through a Vortex.

It is and HS with the BDC, side focus. best thing you can do if can is look though a bunch of scopes in the same class and make up your mind. The problem in asking a bunch of dopes on the interweb is the amount of different opinions can be dizzying (including myself in the dope category). Like i said I am a Zeiss guy but so far I do like my vortex.

I'm extremely happy with my 6-24x50 Viper HS LR. So far I have shot sub-MOA out to 900 yards out of my 7mm with it. I highly recommend it. But if you are gonna do some still/brush hunting, 6x magnification is WAY more than needed and can be a pain at times.

The PST offers exposed 1/4moa elevation and windage adjustments, illuminated reticle, and either MOA or MRAD hashmark reticles

The HSLR has 1/2moa exposed elevation and capped 1/4moa windage, standard BDC reticle (no illumination)

Other than that they're the same scope. Same glass, same eye relief, etc

I have both but go with the 4-16x50 HSLR on my 7mm set up for open country. 1/2moa elevation makes for quicker adjustments in the field (less clicks) and the BDC reticle is easy to use for quick 300/400 yard shots

That's a $3800 rifle topped with a $800 Vortex - I guess I messed up & have subjected my eyes to the pain of looking through a Vortex. Guess I should get one of them Leupolds I hear about. Still fluke the odd group though, like these 5 @ 200

I bought a 2-10 viper hs bdc and am very happy with it. I upgraded from a diamondback. I also put a zeiss terra 3-9 on my wifes gun and i am a little dissapointed with the glass, it is blurry around the edges where as the viper is clear edge to edge.

I have the viper 4-16 x 50 HS LR on my 300 win mag and love it the first focal plane is great with the MOA redical its super easy to dial up with 1/2 MOA per click turret. I dont see the need for the windage turret just learn to use the redical and its just one more nob to get caught on stuff.

Have the HSLR in 4-16 and like it quite a bit. Only complaint is it wasn't great at first light trying to ID a small buck at 450 yards. Otherwise have dialed out 700 yards and back to zero no prob. Cant beat it for the price and the warranty IMO.

ive got a 4-16 HS viper as well. Its a great scope, I wonder how i did it with a 3-9 for so long. All the guys at the gun counter say why buy a ziess if you can get the same quality for less money with a good vortex. Unless you want to drop a few more hundred for the name.

Killed many an animal with my Vortex HS. Clear glass and a nice fine reticle. Great for long shots.

5 shot group at 219 yards with a Vortex 4-16 PST and a Tikka 300Win Mag with around 800 rounds on the stock barrel.
