So I've searched through a ton of old threads but can't really find the answer. What do you guys think is the best tent for horse packing trips. I've been thinking of the tipi tent or a alaskatent arctic oven. Does anyone have any experience with these?

Im not a horse hunter but I have a 4 man Seekoutside tipi with a large titanium stove, which is great for backpacking. If I was horse hunting id get a 6 or 8 man with there XL stove. Kifaru makes some nice tipi and stoves too.

For horse packing I'd look at a pyramid with canvas roof and nylon walls. Should be about 20-30 lbs including centre pole.

Tipis don't have a lot of usable space.

I learned about that Alaska Oven over on Rokslide. It looks pretty fantastic.

However I am on the cusp of snapping up a Seek Outside Tipi and stove OR Kirafu Sawtooth. Want to be able to backpack it in with two guys.

Keeping my eye out for a used set up but fear the dollar having another big mishap.

Going to wait another 3 weeks or so and then buy new if I haven't found a used one.

I think in the long run you'd find the tipi more versatile.

I have looked into the various tents and think the tipitent.com might be the way to go.
The arctic oven is way to heavy and expensive, 75 lbs and $2800
The seek outside tipi is about 16lbs and $1200 but apparently doesn't hold the snow very well.
Tipitent.com camo hunter is about 25 lbs and $1000 but has better tie down strings to take the snow weight.

I didn't see a heat source, but it is well designed.

Another good option might be the snowtrekker tents. There really light for a quality canvas tent and come with a packable aluminum frame.

I also have the 14'X14' Eena TT. Great tent and yes, sets up in under fifteen minutes with one person. I also have the fly which can be set up separately for a cooking/lounging shelter.

Stood up to some fierce Wyoming winds no problem.

My stove jack comes out the side though, unlike the one in Yama49"s picture.

Another vote for the Eena tent from Beckel Canvas. They are awesome, durable, easy to setup light weight tents. Mine is going on 18 years old or so...
