So I made a trade a few weeks ago to Huntcoop. My Browning 300 wsm for his rem 700 338 win mag.
All went well but I wanted to make the new to me 338 "mine".

I stumbled across a member from this site that does hydrodipping and after a few emails back and forth I had my rifle stripped down and on its way to him for a treatment. I chose to go with a Kuiu Verde pattern and I'm glad I did. It turned out awesome!!

Now I just want to upgrade that scope and I'll be happy with my 'big' gun and it'll be time to start my 'little' deer gun project for local hikes.

Very nice. I've been in touch with him as well. I want to do the stock on my Montana. Deciding on the pattern is the hard part!

BearStump
02-15-2015, 06:07 PM
ya I found that to be the hard part too. It would be easy to decide if there were only a few patterns to choose from. But with all the really cool patterns available it was hard to narrow down to one that I thought I'd like for a long time.

Maybe he should advertise on here.....it would pay 10 fold.

Cheers

I'm sure it would. I was just trying to tip toe around the unpaid advertising thing as I dont think he's a site sponsor and these threads tend to get closed when it starts to look like advertising.

Nonetheless, I was happy with his work. I had been looking for someone to do this since Cobra imaging in Salmon Arm was a site sponsor. I was going to get them to do it but just as I was about to pull the trigger with them they were'nt taking anymore work on or something like that.

How does it hold up with wear and tear?

BearStump
02-27-2015, 08:43 PM
seems like it'll hold up pretty good. he did 3 coats of relly good satin clear over the colour. seems like it'll hold up as good as any other factory coating. Haven't tested it out yet though but time will tell.

there was literally a ton of patterns to choose from. Just google hydro dipping camo patterns Or skull patterns. Pretty much any pattern you find online is doable. There was some pretty cool ones with deer skulls hidden amongst the hardwoods camo and stuff like that.

What stock did you have done? I was lead to believe that there was difficulty in doing anything with the stock Remington synthetic stocks due to the release agent or something used in their mold process. Hope I was mis-lead! Looks amazing!

Mine is a remington 700 338 with the factory synthetic stock.

So, because My wife's income tax bill ate up the savings that I had set aside for my new Zeiss scope. I'm left crying inside without my pretty new diamond to top off my pretty rifle. When times are tough, ya gotta improvise I guess. so I got creative and painted the scratched up old B&L Elite that was on the rifle. Took my time and disassembled what I could. spent a good hour or so masking very carefully and hit it with a thin coat of Krylon in olive green. Let it harden up for an hour then used a Varathane satin clear over top. Turned out pretty good I guess. Its gonna have to do till I can save up some dough for the Zeiss again.

Does anyone know if a rubber synthetic stock could be hydro-dipped?

I have a Sako Finnlight I would be interested in dipping, but it's less synthetic and more rubber so I'm concerned it may be too soft to use.

BearStump

I haven't actually handled a finnlight. Are the rubber pieces removable ? Then Re glue them after the dip is done.

I don't think so. It's a one-piece stock where the rubber inserts are embedded. A quick google search didn't answer my question either. I may just have to go for it and see how it turns out.

Any reference to what the end product feels like texture-wise? Does it retain the pre-dip feel of the stock, or does it turn into a hardened plastic feel?

BearStump
03-26-2015, 09:17 PM
Still feels the same. The pattern film is so thin, it actually takes the shape of the textured grip on the forestock and hand grip areas. I honestly wouldn't think that it would go too well over rubber. But talk to Anthony, he'll know.

Interesting, think I'll attempt a dip when the weather warms up and getting a dipping tank built, seems to be an outside job.
Thanks BearStump.

So for those searching for liquid graphics and coming across this thread, does this guy in Coquitlam have a website? Site sponsor or not, there is certainly a lot of interest in this service!
