I have purchased and returned 3 separate tripods over the last week, as I was unhappy with all of them. I know a few guys recommend the Manfrotto. Anything else decent out there? It'll have a Pentax PF65ED sitting on it...

Why dont you just go with the manfrotto and be happy? You get what you pay for....Another brand thats good, but i havent ever used is Gitzo. Or you could look at the Slik Carbon fiber series, they are super light!

Just depends which model. The 713 and 714 Digi SHB are lighter models and decently steady. I just want to swap the head on the original 713 with something a bit better.

I bought a Manfrotto 718 SHB off eBay for my new Zeiss 85 Diascope. Great tripod but not very sturdy when the height is maxed... at least with the weight of the Zeiss.

This tripod http://www.outdoorsmans.com/tripod.html kicks royal ass on the Manfrotto but it's more $$$$.

Happy Hunting!

MattB,

My hunting partner had one last year, and was using a swarovski 80 STS HD. The movement was completely smooth, no vibration when focusing and it's bomb proof.
