I thought J3's had their cylinder heads exposed? Am I missing something?

Most do, I am not sure if it is factory, an STC or field cert for the newer style cowling.

That is a nice short take off on floats anyway you slice it! I guess it is a J3, I did not see any flaps.

Looks like a PA-11 to me, sounds like a 90 hp (C90). The PA-11 is nearly identical to the J3 but it has the front cowling.
Can do almost everything a PA-18 does, but at half the price. For the private pilot it is hard to beat.
