Narrowed the new pack choice down to 2 looking for a good day hunting pack as well as week to ten day trips, I'm leaning towards the 5200 cubic inch timberline 2 but am unsure if I'm making a mistakes, I'm looking for people's options that have either of the packs thanks or any experience with them thanks

I have the t2 With 2 large belt pockets, a grab it and the long hunt lid. I don't do extended back pack trips. If I was doing anything over 5 days I would have a T1. If I were in your shoes and were doing 10 dayers there is no question id have a T1. Trying to pack 10 days into 5200 would be quite a challenge if not impossible

I would look at the duplex or bikini frame for the small amount of extra cash and versatility. People have complained about no closure on the side pockets and filling with stuff on the timberline bags. Have you looked at the mountain warrior? if a big trip ever came up you could add a guide lid and large side pockets and be in the 7300 ci range, or run the standard 4800.

Go with the timberline 1, you will need that extra space for 10 day trips and the weight penalty is only 5 ounces. I use my duplexe timberline 1 on day hunts to 10 day plus long backpacking trips, it is an excellent pack.

I vote DT1. I was having the same debate when I ordered mine. Basically the only difference is the 7200 has a extension on the top of the bag that allows more gear. It's hardly noticeable until you need that extra little bit of space. Weight wise I think it's only a couple oz's. Sorry about the crappy picture, it's early and my eyes are groggy lol, but this shows the extension sewed onto the top of the bag. The 5200ci is the same, but doesn't have that extension. I actually find it nice, adds another synch point, keeping the weather out of your bag.

iv packed for 10-14 days a few times with ease, and also use it for day goat trips. The pack synchs up good when it's empty also. The ONLY thing I don't like about my DT are the side pockets. They have no flap or zipper, only a synch strap. Often I find my side pockets full of spruce needles, and if it's raining, chances are anything in the side pockets will get a bit wet.

If I was to do it over again, I would ask Kifaru to sew in a couple flaps over the side pockets, even with just a bottom or something to hold them closed.

Cheers.

Another DT1 vote. I use my pack for extended trips but it also cinches down just fine for shorter trips. I've added 2 waist belt pockets, 2 pockets on the bottom/side of the pack, grab it, and the zippered lid.

Hey thanks for your input, I'm think I am going to go with the 7200 however, I have a couple questions about the pack#1 what was the shipping charges and were there any duty charges at the border? And the second was on the website try have the 7200 listed for $636 however I am confused with which frame you receive with this pack the duplex or bikini ? Thanks if you are able to answer either of these questions greatly appreciated.

i am on my phone so i can't see it but my assumption is you are looking at the internal frame packs for 636. if you want the duplex or bikini you buy that and then the bag to match. there will 100 percent be duty. ask them to ship usps so ypu dont get raped with brokerage fees and the shipping sjpuld be less then $50

When I ordered mine I believe I paid regular shipping, I don't remember the dollar amount, but I do remember it was reasonable. I did not get charged tax or duty. Being made in the USA it should be duty free, as for tax, I'm not sure if I just got away lucky or what lol.

When I ordered mine, it came with the duplex frame, although that was before the bikini frame came out. I'd imagine when you order they will give you the option of either or.

I'm excited for you! Lol. I must say my DT1 was the best upgrade I ever made, Enjoy!!

Lorne is correct, you are looking at the pack with the internal frame. If you go with the 7200 bag and either the duplex or bikini frame your looking at just over $700.

What your looking for is the Duplex Timberline 1 BAG as well as a frame either duplex or Bikini. All you pay at your door is tax and shipping will be calculated for you.

On that bag for 636 is it later able to upgrade it to a duplex frame or is that only for the duplex bag

The bag for 636 is a built in frame and cannot be upgraded. The Bikini is the most comfortable and will handle loads up to 90 lbs and probably even more, the duplex is a couple lbs more and much more rigid for heavy hauling but still plenty comfy. I've had both and now have the duplex just because there's nothing it won't do but in reality 99% of the time I don't need it and the Bikini would do just fine. I strongly recommend not going with the built in frame and getting either a Bikini or duplex frame as well as the guide lid in place of the no volume standard lid.

You are most likely looking for the DT1 bag and then choose between the duplex or bikini frame. Personally I went with the duplex frame. Your best bet - call Kifaru and speak with Aron.

I would look at the EMR2, better one pack do all from daypak to extended mission... I prefer the duplex for the frame

Anyone know of a distributor in Canada? I went to order the duplex frame and bag tonight and with the exchange it was $981 a little more then I was expecting.

No, and a distributor in Canada wouldn't save you anything to be honest. You're buying direct from the manufacturer and that's the price....the dollar sure doesn't help these days...

Never say never, but unless I won the lottery, I would not be paying $981 for any pack, too rich for me.
