My 2015 Shed Hunt Year..

This is the start of my 2015 shed hunt year was out looking around yesterday did not expect to find any fresh sheds
reason I was out was I needed to start getting these old legs into working condition and I can't think of a better way
to do this.

I walked up hill down hill for about 4 hours I put on around 5k my legs are a little tired this morning not to bad will keep
doing my walks 3 times a week I want them legs ,lungs hart to be in tip top shape for when the real shed drop starts a
person by doing this can give it hard when the elk sheds start dropping a few more months.

It would be hard on an old fart to not get in condition at the start of the real drop in April if he or she did not get them
self in good condition before they gave it all they had here are a few clips from yesterdays shed hunt here in Cranbrook

Not that many WT or mule deer behind my home here in Cranbrook do you want to give me your coordinates where your pet WT is LOL all I am doing is stretching these old legs to keep them in shape..

Here in the Okanagan we have more snow which should help to keep the deer in their wintering areas so they drop their antlers close to one elevation. Not all over the hill like in previous years.
Most of my spots are not accessible for 2 more months. I could snowshoe in but why !?!

Out yesterday was +12 no snow left on the ground low elevation I put on around 14k out for 9hr all day the shed gods where good to me once again.

Finally getting over my bad bug so I felt up to going for a 5hr shed hunt at the end of the five hours was starting to feel run down still have not got my strength back
one good thing is that for my efforts I was rewarded with my first fresh elk shed for my 2015 elk shed hinting year never have found a elk shed this early my thoughts
are that the mild weather we have had this winter has something to do with me finding this fresh elk shed or the elk was run down and cast its antlers early this I will

I would head up to the old air port at Sayward shed hunt around the air port then hit the bottoms of the white river I would put a few dollars down that you would find some old or fresh sheds wait till the end of April to hit this area the antlers will be off most bulls..

I just got into shed hunting on the island before I moved up to the EK I did manage to find one big fresh 6 point elk shed behind the Campbell river air port I found around 10 island deer sheds in the two years hunting for them..

I find that shed hunting is just like looking for new places to hunt for game animal I use google earth as my friend google earth shows me possible places to try for sheds I mark out the possible place to try print it out off google earth then hit the area if I don.t find any antlers after I had worked over the are for 8hr I can that place I keep trying new areas till I find some sheds.

Next Monday I will head out again I have already Googled out new possible places for sheds to try down in the Newgate area will see what a few areas will bring down there next week will spend 12 hr there shed hunting..

No I did not find a tick on me on Monday I was working the old timber most of the day very little time spent out in open areas I find that the ticks love the sagebrush when I am in the open into the sagebrush this is when I get the ticks on me or brushing tick fur trees when I have to pass through them I have found out that in big old timber that it is open in the timber with very little undergrowth in the dark timber I don't get ticks on me..

Out yesterday for a 8hr solo shed hunt was a little luckier then the other day I found 3 last years shed and saw lots of bull elk still packing there head gear one elk in one bunch of bulls had no head gear on a few bulls have dropped there head gear but far and few bulls have dropped here is a video clip of the sheds I found I put on around 15k and was out for 8 hours..

Friday April 24,2015 shed hunt notice the elk hair next to the elk shed I believe that the bull layed it to another bull in the but and that's why this antler came off I looked for over an hour for the other side came up empty handed....

Out all day yesterday on a shed hunt found two elk sheds for my efforts ,,,had a sow Grizzly bluff charge me two times she had two cubs with her thank god for my air horn and having my defender and bear spray with me I had the shot gun up and ready she turned around after charging me ran back to her cubs then came back at me I fired a shot into the air to scare her then she sow turned and run back to her cubs again I then took my air horn out and blasted it 4 or 5 times shed then took off with her cubs ,,scared the crap out of me..

Out yesterday May 01,,2015 for an 8 hr shed hunt I found two last years elk sheds amazing that the big 6 point was not chewed very much found it in the dark timber..The 6 point Shed as it was...

After I cleaned up this elk shed I have lost lots of weight over the past 5 months out shed hunting even my feet got smaller I when from a size 10 down to a size 9 foot wear LOL..

Out for a two day shed hunt trying new areas slept in my truck for the two nights took enough food for the two days did not do that good put on around 35km for 24hr time frame only found three old elk sheds video clips will be up latter when they are uploaded on you tube..

Just to let all the people that are following my 2015 shed thread that today might be my last day of shed hunting for the 2015 year
I have to start getting out my trail cams for this year now is when the male animals want to feed on the salt till late Aug early Sept.......

I lied got to head back into the old growth timber try to find that elk other side antler shed If I do not I would be saying to myself why did you not go back and look for a few hours for the matching side it just might be there within a 100 yards somewhere within a 360 circle .

I feel good that I am going to try and find that other side at least I can say I tried to find it or maybe even better another fresh gold elk sheds ?? I am out of here headed into the mountains,,will let you know how I did tomorrow..

Here are two videos from my last shed hunt for the 2015 season ,,I had to go back for a look for that other matching elk side in the big timber never did find a fresh shed this day found a few older ones I put on around 16km for a 9 hour shed hunt main thing is I was in gods country and that's all that counts..

I went out looking for a Muley or whitey buck on Sunday, didn't see a deer but came across over 70 elk, 20+ were bulls and found last years shed off a small 4point Muley and a match set from last year of a small 4 point bull elk, all n all a great day out hiking in the sun. Start getting into sheep shape for next august!

That's how you do it keep going out and work the mountains will keep you in shape ,,I don't like the Jim when I work out I like being around nature more to see and works very well for a work out ,,in the Jim you won't find any elk or deer sheds or a chance at finding a dead head ,,keep it up and you will be in top shape next Aug..
