Phoned my MLA in Langley, Mary Polak. She wasn't in of course so I spoke with her assistant, Gabrielle. She was very accommodating and I voiced some of my concerns in regard to the allocation of tags. She said that I was the first person in Langley to phone about this issue and she asked me to send a letter (e-mail) which I did. She said she had received letters from people outside of Langley but that I was the first person from her constituency to call or write!!!!!!!

How are we going to be heard if we aren't phoning and pestering our MLA's.

Henry

I live in Langley, and will definitely be sending my letter shortly. Every hunter in every city needs to let their voice be heard.

I'm just going by what her assistant told me. She could have been mistaken or, she could have been misleading me. I don't know. Either way, the more people from Langley that phone and write, the better. Thanks for sharing this info and passing it along.

So right off the bat I'll admit I'm lazy. So is there a form letter I could down load and send or deliver to my MLA? I will make time to personally deliver it and explain that I could be a great supporter.

No time to be lazy....this is SERIOUS!

Loads and loads of examples and info on this site to write a brief letter stating your position and that this matters to you and your family! Tell them you will be voting based on the outcome (if you vote).

All these letters are great, and I hope everyone sends something to some MLA or another.

I am sending a slightly different letter, and will get it to all MLAs. I'm starting at A, and I'm through to the Bs. I am very impressed with Shirley Bond - she got back to me at the speed of light!

"I wanted to thank you for your email. It is important to me and my office. I will review it as soon as possible and respond accordingly. This automatice reply is sent to assure you that your correspondence has been received. Thank you for contacting our office. Shirley Bond MLA Prince George - Valemount Minister of Jobs, Tourism & Skills Training, and Minister Responsible For Labour"

I have to be honest. Even though it's an auto reply, and even though it's got an auto-spelling error in it, I'm still glad to know she's giving us personal attention! :-)

Some guys have expressed here that we need a longer term outlook. Bsed on the rumor I read here today that the GOABC has a plan to try to get Mule deer in some regions changed to LEH I think that a longer term outlook is needed, in addition to fighting the allocation policy.

Right now resident hunters face competition from the GOABC, and opposition from various sides.

I wouldn't be surprised if a trade organization like GOABC has long term plans to improve it's members' business prospects. If it wants to cut the pie up into different size slices instead of growing the pie then their interests and ours don't align.

Anti-hunting groups are very practiced, as we've seen from the wolf cull opposition and as we've seen in other jurisdictions.

We need to learn from those guys.

I will keep everyone informed about what responses I get.

Here is what I wrote my MLA:
Jordan,

I’m writing to tell you there is a problem with the deal that was just made regarding the wildlife allocation. Resident hunters seem to be losing out to guide outfitters and hunters from out of the province. That is not acceptable and I’d like you to voice my displeasure. Hunters in BC are furious and they are becoming very vocal.

I hunt and I vote. I’d like to keep voting for you, please make that easy.

Thanks.

I sent a letter to my MLA as well- Dan Ashton. Basically with the same message as Allan (I hunt and I vote) I also added that my extended family that doesn't hunt but utilizes the I meat harvest and supports hunting and votes too.

I am also wondering that these MLA responses like- not getting many letters or first to call is a response they were perhaps told to give to try and kill are spirits.
Keep the pressure on guys!
