Hey guys, looking for some recommendations on outfitters for a bc elk hunt. My father is a life long deer hunter living in Regina and would like to be guided on his first elk. I've been living in the terrace area for the last couple of years and have barely scratched the surface around home for hunting never mind any of the elk country. Northern BC would be first choice and kootenays second. Area is less important than $ and guide reputation. Would really appreciate some advice. Fall 2015 is the plan.

Are you aware of the GOABC vs resident hunter allocation problem we are currently going through?

Very aware, wrote my letter, signed bcwf's petition and not at all surprised at your response. This was about getting my old man on a hunt be for he simply can't go. I apologize for the timing!

What about taking him on a Permit To Accompany? Does the hunt have to be in BC?

Thanks for some of the responses. Before moving to the terrace area I was in Red Deer for 12 years. Very aware of Alberta's hunting opportunities. Also aware Dad could stay in sask for very good elk hunting also. His desire is northern bc and I can't help but want to learn some of the terrain near home. BC it will be. I assume the permit to accompany is the same as me being a hunter host. Down side, I don't elk country here yet.

Apply for accompanied hunt and take your dad hunting with these guys http://www.riverjetadventures.com/ the two of you will go for less than a guided hunt and you and your dad will have a blast.

There's a lot of self satisfaction on drop or pack in hunts with transporters like Riverjet, Tetsa and Steamboat Outfitters ......
Shot some good 6 's each trip, Rams too. They are there if you work hard at a portion the price of a guided hunt. Good chance for Caribou or Moose too depending how far your packed or dropped off .

But for some a guided hunt is the ticket .......There are both good and bad out there so do your homework . Be prepared to part with Huge cash ....... I'd be looking to Alberta with all that's going on in BC right now though.

brettk, I cannot be as nice as these guys. These guides are raking us over the coals right now. I realize your dad's time may be limited, but if you can't wait a year and support your fellow hunters, go to Alberta. A year is not going to make a difference and it will help us tremendously. Either that or use the packers or River Jet Adventures. In no way right now should you be supporting the GOABC. Even if they are good guides, if they are not standing up to oppose this policy, they are riding the coat tails and being silent to "see what happens". To me that is the same as supporting the policy! Do Not book with a GOABC guide! If they don't like it they will pressure their executive and change will happen. Sorry, if they are going to be jerks and try to bully us, I am not going to show any kindness to any of their membership.

We offer fully supplied, horse pack trips. If you get a permit to accompany for your dad (available at Service BC) we can transport you into some excellent elk country. We only have a few spots left for this year. If this interests you give Seymour a call soon at 250-500-1144.

Take a look at our Web site: http://www.steamboatmountainoutfitters.ca/Home.html
