Just wondering if there is a approximate percentage ratio on how to estimate a deers weight, on the hoof when you weight in your deer at the butcher. Ie you bring in a deer dressed out at 185 lbs is he 270 on the hoof?

I think it's about sixty percent of life weight.

A study was done to show that apparently, after being field dressed, a deer loses 18% of it's body weight. Multiply the weight after being dressed by 1.22 and you'll get your weight on hoof.

A 185 pound deer dressed out would have weighed alive on the hoof 240..
