Is Damascus steel worth the cost

hey guys looking at a new knife from John Neeman, I am wondering if blades in Damascus steel are worth the cost and or if they are only really practical for show peices. The knife I am leaning towards is out of Elmax steel, from the small amount of reading I have done it seems like a good quality steel. Would love the High Carbon "Silver Steel" but I think it is too maintenance intensive. Thanks for any info you can part with and I recommend looking at their site if for no other reason to see the videos which are extremely interesting. All their tools are hand made and fairly expensive but am looking for a knife that I can keep for ever, something special. Anyways thanks for the info again.
