Has anyone seen hide or hair of Marty Loring in PG- I paid him a deposit 3 years ago to mount a deer and he hasn't returned calls in more than 6 months. I know he does good work, but 3 years is 2 years longer than promised and I am getting worried he has skipped town or something.

Something wrong there, I know people who have been waiting for their stuff for 5 years! He seems to have no accountability to anyone but himself, maybe??? Empty promises, it's to bad he doe'snt start taking the High road and fufill what he was paid to do. Pretty sad.

my friend has been waiting for over 6 years for a mulie and cougar. Marty uses the money to fund his own hunts and wont return a call. I had to wait over a year and a half for tanned fur as he didnt pay the tannery. if you want to get stuff done fast and great i would recommend rick read at natures image taxidermy.

sounds like a scenario I experienced in Kelowna.
ended up saying F'it and took my rack back and just nailed it to a board.
it would have been my first mount, but spoiled the whole experience and I have no interest in going through that again.

Don't know the guy in question, but in my opinion anything over 18 months is too long to be waiting. Something wrong with a taxi that takes in too much or doesn't put enough time in to get things turned around in a year and a half.

agree.
some of them don't seem to know enough to say "no" at some point.
they can't just simply keep accepting more and more work, not when they can't keep up.
it would suck to have to turn someone away and send them to the competition, but, in the long run, when you never get anyone's work done, they'll lose ALL their work after awhile.

same here.... over 2 years.... no deer mount back.. both mine and my brothers.... told less then a year when i dropped it off.... impossible to get ahold of, even dropped by his house, left message.... he does great work but waiting years isnt worth it

No. He just keeps them at his shop and doesn't do them. He sends the capes out for tanning.

Had him do a goat shoulder mount for me in 2009. Dropped it off in September 2009 and had it back in July August 2010. Walked through his shop and it sure looked like he was working on stuff.

You have to put lots of pressure on Marty!!

When he was doing mine, I started calling once it was evident that the 1 year was not going to be made. After 18 months, I called, stopped by and basically became a PITA. I also mentioned that I would be taking my deposit and deer to his Mentor and Teacher and would be telling him the reason why.

My deer was finally completed 28 months after it was dropped off. He also gave me a discount for the length of time it took and called me when I finally got it (was on the Island at the time) to ask if I was happy.

He did a great job, I will say that!!

The most I have had to wait for tannery services was a year and that was very unusual and a new tannery was used after that. Waiting two and a half years for tannery services is a tough pill to swallow and I would be on the verge of calling buffalo bagels. I would ask for the number of the tannery and ask your own questions. Just like any other business if you are not getting the service you think you should be getting, go some where else. It seems like a lot of guys are being held ransom and you do not have to be. I would go ask for your horns, cape and pay for what ever services the taxi has performed which does not sound like much. This is sometimes enough to light a fire and if not you will get your stuff back, worth a try.

I'm at just over 4 years for an elk mount...

He has my bear skin ,wolf skin and shoulder mount and lynx skin and other work since 2009 took $900 deposit
also another payment in 2010 for $1000.
since moving back to England I have still not had my mounts.
Since I have found out he is also a convicted poacher.

It seems like at least 1 person has come to the wrong conclusion without reading the entire article. In the discussion and analysis section 1 second sentence says that both Lorings were aquitted (not guilty) of all 6 charges under the wildlife act. This means that Marty is NOT a convicted poacher. There maybe be other cases or charges that I am not aware of but the article referenced by Fisher does not support Rroebuck's "convicted poacher " claim. We should all be extremely careful when making comments like this unless we are certain of the facts. Roebuck if there is information online that indicates a conviction under the wildlife act please post a link.
