I haven't been on a fly in hunt for 5 years and I am wondering what the going rate is per mile out of Dease lake? If anyone knows pricing for a beaver, 206 or even a 185 I would interesting in hearing about it. Thanks

Fly out of Watson it was only $8.50 a mile. I think the guys in Tatoga were $8.50 as well.

Northern Rockies is in Watson the pilots name is Bill a very competent older pilot. All they have is a beaver though. Don't think anyone is running a 185 up there maybe the rip off artist in Muncho.

Sooo badly want to do a fly-in hunt this year.

Turning 50... might be a great excuse.

Well if the current oil prices stay the course it should be in the $7 per mile this year for a Beaver be interesting to see if the new crowd in Dease drop there prices near as quick as they pushed them up.

I think we paid $4/mile back in 2000. Maybe $4.50 tops.
Gas prices in Dease were 82.9cents/L at the time.

Who did you speak to? I believe Ootsa bought them out even though they still use the old contact number, email, etc. BC Yukon was always $0.25-$0.50/mile less that Ootsa but with no competition in Dease it's one price and jumped a $1.

Ok, the prices in this thread are wildly divergent. Some say $10/mile, some say $.10/mile. Curious to know which it is.

The price, wet, for a very nice private jet is $3700/hour. I estimate a Beaver or 206 will cruise close to 150mph. That would be $1500 per hour PER PERSON, and that doesn't make sense.

Having said that, aviation in the north is a difficult proposition and I'm sure it is expensive. Just curious what the right number is.

I flew for 8 a mile out watson this summer, and 8 a mile out of dease last summer, sounds like it has gone up in dease now

you are forgetting that is 4 trips to get you to a lake and back home. About 100-120mph in the beavers. And its not per person, its per plane

10 bucks a mile coming and going unless you get lucky and can split a flight with another party. The higher price goes towards fixing dinged up floats and other dents and scratches. The air taxis do get a workout.

Yeah, earlier in the thread I was wondering how many trips to get a moose out in a 185. Makes sense it would be a few.

Such an inefficient, wonderful way to hunt. An amphib has been a goal of mine for many years but they are a big, nasty financial pill to swallow. You are in the $200,000 for an older 206 and still making multiple trips to take your camp and your moose out.

Buddy sent me a link to a nice kit amphib, two seater, US$75,000. I asked what the useful payload would be and he said about a hundred pounds. And that is assuming neither of the passengers is over 200. Sigh. It is a lofty goal.

IMHO . . . even at $10/mile with three hunters in a plane for a Stone's hunt it's pretty darn cheap for a world class hunt. Compared to what the overweight American is paying for his set of curls and all the games that go along with him cutting a tag I wouldn't trade it for anything!

Maybe Beaverbruce can chime in here but didnt the Bradfords buy BCYukon air?
If you want to fly into their territory you'd be best off booking with Ootsa and vice versa.

A whole moose isn't a problem in a 185. Course it depends on elevation and how much water you have.

Useful on floats is around 1000 lbs on floats IIRC.

I would buy a maul, super stinson, husky, scout, cub, super tri-pacer before I bought a 185/180. Was never a huge fan. Noisy, sucks a lot of fuel and really not that great of a performer.

I am going on a fly hunt for the first time next year, BC Yukon flight already booked. I figure it will be about $1600 all in to get me and another guy in and out again with a moose, so $800 each. That is pretty much the same as a ticket from Smithers to Vancouver. It is expensive but the overall experience should be fantastic so easily justifiable ( to me, the wife slightly less)

So exactly what is a 206? I was thinking Bell Jet Ranger but knowing you can't use them for transporting hunters I didn't want to pipe up and be 'that guy'. Now I am curious.

The 206 out of Tatogga is pimped out pretty good. Much better performance over a standard 206.

These were my quoted prices from Alpine out of White Horse, Aug. this year.
Used them for a few years now and have always found them to be excellent company. Great people to deal with and have always received 5 star service.

180 - $4.20 per mile - or $520.00 per hr.

260 - $4.85 - or $580.00

Beaver -$7.95 - or $880.00

If anyone's interested in chartering a flight to Dease Lake direct from Vancouver send me a pm. It'll be more expensive than commercial but it's convenient, direct and could be cost effective amortized over 6 guys. Flight time about 2:45 accommodating 1500lbs (passengers and gear).

And any other operators up North looking to connect clients to a direct charter service... drop me a line.

I think it was a similar thread about jet boat hunting in the Tuchodi that sucked up all my money in 2013.

I think I can see the writing on the wall for 2015.

Does anyone have some wealthy, generous friends they'd like to share?

Still the most dangerous airplane ever put on floats. "Fastest boat on the lake." Underpowered on floats with the original engine. Without the door modifications you might as well be riding in a flying coffin. There's a reason the larger version is called the Crowd Killer. Worst airplane I ever flew, by far. (Not Tatogga's airplane specifically, just the 206 in general)

We were quoted $10/mile for a beaver out of Dease for next year. Good for 1200 lbs.

A friend and I are hoping to do some hunting north of Dease lake next year. If it can be coordinated right there could be some savings for both parties if the dates were staggered. To narrow it down we are planning late August sheep, goat and maybe caribou. Does not have to be the same lake but close would be good.

PM me if you are interested.
