Hey all, as a new to the lower mainlander I don't know all the spots, just came down from the interior, and what the heck there no ice to fish on, so I figure I'll hit the rivers. I've heard the vedder starts to pick up steelhead around now slowly until april when it heats up is that correct? What rivers are good for fishing. Around here any inffo is appreciated

Mid Jan is when the bulk of steelhead move into the vedder. You can fish that river pretty much anywhere pic a spot and walk cover lots of water. cast couple times no bites move on. How much effort you put into fishing? PM me if you want specifics

cheers

Get out now and start scouting the river. Best time about now is no crowds. I will be heading out next weekend for the first time.

I left fishing with rod when I discovered HBC.
If you want to hear a bunch of leftist, tree hugging rambling, you go right ahead.
I met a few good people there too, but for the most part it has lots it's appeal.

There is really no sense in going before Dec 25th - ish.
Like someone said, mid January is when they start to come in.

You said in an earlier thread steelpulse that you were having problems finding a decent paying job in the Loops.Just wondering if your fortunes have changed in LA-LA LAND??I think your hunting & fishing fortunes have crashed but get to know the LML and things aren't so bad.Always enjoy your posts! Cheers Mark

They do come in earlier, but are spotty. Back in the early 90's you could fish from Sept all the way through winter and catch steelies, but with mostly hatchery fish now they tend to come in as groups. You'll get to know which days are good for steelies during the week too as that is when the hatchery truck loads them up again and dumps them back into the lower river.

December is a good month to fish. More for scouting purposes than catching, but there are a few early fish.

Lost one last Sunday afternoon, not sure if it was steel or a large bull trout.

Are there many bull trout out there? I'm always down for any large fish. And obviously steelhead, how do you guys mainly fish the river, spey? Spin set up?

Are there carp in the river? I know how dare I suggest fly fishing for carp where there are steelhead but carp fishing is fantastic on the fly haha

I like the Vedder, combat fishing is quite entertaining.

I usually get into about a half dozen bulls per season.

Lots of carp in some of the sloughs in Chilliwack area.
