Now that I am out of the mountains for a short time I can now take you members through my journey on how my bow elk hunt unfolded
I will be putting my story video clips pictures up on this site in the next day or so from when it all started and finished on Sept 02 ,2014
Sometimes for me it was very emotional hawks and sweat to no end temp at that time where in the hi + hi 20 range I had to get this bull
out on this day no matter what..
My solo elk hunt 2014..
Picture of a moose shed I found two feet off the game trail I was walking down to one of my trail cams early June..

In June of 2014 I put my trail cams out in different areas as for the alkaline blue salt blocks to see what is in the areas it was hard work packing the 50 pound salt blocks up hills
I put out 9 trail cams and 5 salt blocks 5 pals of windsor water softening salt..
Every 10 days I would check my trail cams for activity I did not put up as many trail cam pictures that I had reason being is I think there are a few people on this sight that know
where my trail cams are ??? I kept them locations to myself..
I was at my home four days before the GOS for bow was to start I was trying to get a good night sleep the night before I was to head into my hunting camp but could not sleep
thinking about getting back into my hunting camp so I got up early morning hours and headed in to my hunting camp..
After 3 months had gone by I got a handle on where the hi number of elk where targeting my salt block station so in late Aug I took my self climbing tree stand into that active bait
station to set the tree stand up at the base of a tree that was set back in the timber at 22 yards.
Getting the tree stand in a little early in the middle of the day the chances are that you won't spook out any animals during this time period the temperature on this lat Aug day was
+28C it was a hot one for this old fart LOL

Here are a few video clips of me headed in to my hunting camp and packing my tree stand in to put it at a base of a tree..
Packing my tree stand in to set up ......https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lE8EdHJ1Ryk
This Hawk landed about 20 feet behind me same level as me up in my tree stand it is a spirit tell me that a bull elk will be walking into view in a few min so cool and yes a bull elk did come into bow range about five min latter https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LLaYIVFefDc
The 5x5 bull elk came into my cow calling after I got settled in my tree stand at 730am after my second sequins of cow calls this bull showed himself this video clip is after I had made my shot..
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oP6diKZSPjE
After I had called for about half of an hour and the hawk stopped chirping I saw a movement to my right yes it is a bull elk I upped my 375 fps Maximums cross bow with a 450g bolt in it where the bull elk had stopped when the bull took a few more steps he was in the clear..
A spirit from the sky..

I took my safety off aimed 6 inches back behind the left front shoulder and let go I heard a big snap from my X bow ??? the elk took off running after shooting this bull elk I gave a few cow calls to settle the bull down yes I worked he stopped after running 50 feet and stood there looking where the cow calls were coming from he stood there for about two min before walking off slowly as the video shows.
I got down from my tree stand went over to where I had arrowed the bull to see a small amount of blood I then took a bolt out of my quiver to put it in my X bow rail and noticed that the snap I heard was from one of my limes that had split I looked at the end where it is secured to the main rail of the X bow and noticed it had a six inch split in the end of the limb.
All kinds of things where then going trough my mind at this time the bow was NFG and I had a bull elk that walked away was thinking what if and when I caught up to this elk and he was still alive how could I finish him off ??? I can't put a bullet in him its got to be a bolt or I have to finish him off with a knife ????..
I bought a used cross bow a few days latter its a 305 ex-caliber bow paid $400.00 for it..
Below is my Maximums cross bow that has a cracked limb on the left side I have a new set on the cross bow now and have a new back up set stored away encase this happens again..

My work was cut out for me one hour after I had arrowed this bull I started following the blood trail at first I thought I had made a bad shot turned out that it was a bad shot but a lucky shot ...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q9r1NbdaDC4......https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-Cwb247BGg..
I bought a used x bow after this happened to me its a 305 fps ex-caliber cross bow..
Finally I found the bull elk pilled up in the big timber after two hours of looking stopping at times for 15 min or so was I ever one happy camper when I saw this bull laying on his side in the timber
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UDej1sMcyvo......https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQjrKtORlVs
After looking at where my shot placement bolt had hit I saw that the killing head had hit the jugular vain in the throat when the limb cracked that was the load noise
I heard when I squeezed the trigger I was lone lucky hunter getting this bull elk video tells it all..
