I had to put my friend and lead dog down today after a short bout with cancer. 6 great years with well over 300 trees. She would run anything I asked, wolverine, grizz, black bear cougar lynx......She made good hounds look very ordinary. As good on the couch as she was on a bayed up lion.

It's never easy.
I grew up with cougar hounds and have never seen one up the tree with the cat. Looks like she was areal go getter. Thanks for posting the pictures.

Sorry to hear about your dog, Ive dealt with it to many times. Lost my one this spring to lung cancer, dealing with one now with a tumor in her jaw which is pretty much day by day. stomach cancer 2 years ago in another. I sometimes wonder if its related to dog foods now days. Where was it on your dog if you don't mind saying.

Sorry to hear of your loss Doug. Loosing a best friend can be tough, and thats what hounds are to houndsmen. She is casing cats n bears in the sky now.

Very sorry for your loss. It's especially tragic when an animal or person is in their prime.
As a person that's had to deal with personal losses from cancer with my first lab, 2 sisters,
an uncle and aunt, and my own fight, I can understand the feelings. My first lab was a real
buddy, and went with me through thick and thin all over this province while being an
excellent retriever....had to put him down at 8 years.

It was in her mammary glands. the vet figured a last heat cycle may have kick started the process.

thanks for every ones support, this is not the way I am used to seeing dogs die. It seems more fitting when they die doing something they love.

Find solace in the words shared with others. We share your pain of loss through the pictures of Cookie.
It is far better to end the dog's days than to let the dog continue to suffer pain and agony through to that end. It takes a strong and caring master to carry that out.
It's okay to shed a tear or two, it is expected.
I raise my glass. "To Cookie!"

CB, they become part of the family and more loyal and pleased to make you happy then likely any human. Your memories will always be there along with some great rewards and pics to keep her alive forever. You have been so lucky to have such a great friend. Sorry to hear this.

Hmmm if ya ever spend a evening at Dougs place...hint leave the table first to get dibs on a place...any place on the chair or couch...lol dogs, cats all head for the tv...hmmmm cats will fight ya for the head rest...send em on a goose hunt with supplied laser mouse...as for the dogs a quick belly scratch may ensure you a vested spot on the holy grail couch...except for 1 thing..
Tank...he just doest know the meaning of no...and is far too large to argue with...
Yup a lot of loved animals at the top of Mount poop..a..lot...lol

The bond you have with owning a pet. They are not just a pet they are indeed a part of your family. So sorry to hear the loss of Cookie. May she live on in your heart and memories.
