So I am now satisfied and can put my rifle away until next fall. We went out for a 5 day trip Nov 26th got our camp all set up went out first light Thursday morning to scout my area and the bucks were moving seen a number of smaller bucks with their noses to the ground on the move looking for a willing doe. My partner was surprised by a real stud of a buck at 20yrds later in the afternoon and was unable to connect, we passed on a small 4 point with about 30 minutes of shooting light left and were more than satisfied with day one sightings. Friday morning was cold blowing and snowy but we had a plan and we weren't going to see deer in the tent so off we went. We decided to hunt the area we seen the big boy in the day before I left my buddy to that and went to another spot just around the corner. I hiked up 1 of my favorite spots slowly walking the ridge glassing both the west side and the east. I made it to the end of my ridge and sat. I had south facing xmas tree blocks in front of me so he deer could venture out protected by the wind. #0 minutes passed I looked west up the hill just inside the xmas trees I seen a familiar shape it was a doe feeding somewhere between 4-500yrds I moved alittle closer leaning on a down tree and just watched. About ten minutes later I seen more movement higher up on the opposite ridge and knew right away just by the size f the body this was a buck. He was on a mission to catch up with the doe I watched him as he moved down the hill disappearing in little ruts and gullies finally popping out close to where the doe was. My rifle was all set bi pod down comfortable on the tree he stopped briefly crosshairs on the engine run and I left my 165 accubond fly....... nothing missed cleaned, shot under I assuming. He slightly moved quartering away giving me much more to shoot at crosshairs high on the neck and number 2 was on the way! this time he jumped and took off 3 bounces he was gone in the xmas trees. It took me about 10 minutes to make my way over there and a few more minutes to find where he was standing, I find the initial spot where he jumped from and found only a few pieces of hair CRAP I figured I just grazed him. A little dis heartened I followed the track about 20 yrds before I seen about 6 drops of blood now I'm feeling a bit 20 more yrds there he is piled up looking at me I finished him off and then the work began but it was well worth it. I knew he was affair distance out my partner and I guessed around 400yrds judging by my ballistics I would say we were in the ball park my bullet dropped about 25 inches. The rack is pretty average but the body was impressive this guy had some shoulders there is no doubt about that! ill do my best trying to load a pic!
