When should I apply?

So, my POSSESSION - AQUISITION licence (Restricted and Non-restricted) expires in the third week of March 2015. The RCMP website says to expect a 45 day wait after reapplying. Based on past experience, when should I reapply? Was thinking early January and doing it online. (PS. doesn't $80 seem like a bit much for a bit of paperwork?)

I would do it now. I did mine 9 months in advance. You can do it a year in advance if you want.

I would say re-apply now as well, I sent mine in last year and got it back in august this year took about 9 months for the renewal, seems that its taking longer and longer.

90 days prior to your PAL expiry, you should receive a form to fill out, IF you have kept them informed of your current address. Send your forms in as quickly as you can , to expedite your card return. You are not reapplying, you are renewing. A very different form, not downloadable from the website. If you have not received your card by the expiry date, don't panic. Sending your envelope by buying a stamp at the postal outlet/office will give you a receipt, if asked for with a tracking #. Your # will still be valid unless you are denied a renewal for LEGAL reasons. You can phone them now if you want a better explanation. 1-800-731-4000. wait for the prompt for your app, go there then as soon as the message starts , press 0. you can talk with a real person and ask all the questions you want or need answers to.

Thanks for the reminder, mine expires march as well. I just called and they are sending me the forms to fill out ahead of time.

My buddy is still waiting on his, tracking number on his paperwork shows it was received in the middle of august. Still hasn't received it. Earlier the better I guess!

Mine was due in March as well. I sent it in about 2 months ago, and have had it back for at least 3 weeks. I'd send it in now if I were you.

never mind.. got my ATT and my RPAL dates mixed up. thought I had a renewal coming too

Do it Online!

I did mine online and had it in the mail less then 10 days later. Take photo with your computer etc. easy
