Back in October I hiked up into the clear cut early in the morning and bunkered down into my ground blind. About 8:30 (http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/x-apple-data-detectors://0) in the morning I saw movement on the hill side , confirmed that it is was four point with binos. Range find him to 265 yrds. Adjust vx-3 cds to 265. Relax , took a breath, pulled the trigger on the savage 30-06 shooting federal classics 180gr . Hit him good , he staggered a bit then went down . Hiked up to him with a big smile . He was a perfect four, now the work begins .

Just when I was about to deal with him , I looked up and there was a three point whitetail that had come to see what was going on. I let him live as I knew I had a long day ahead of me.

I was about 1000yrds from the road and was by myself. I made a travois ,loaded up the deer and started the hike to the truck. The deer weighed 160 lbs on the hook. Meat for the freezer.

To the father and son who pulled up on a quad and I asked nicely if they could possibly give me a hand , (aprox )150 yards to the truck , and they replied no we're hunting !! I hoped they got nothing !
I packed the deer the rest of the way by myself.

Very nice buck indeed. Congrats! I can't believe they wouldn't lend a hand. That's just poor etiquette - and bad karma!

congrats on the deer.
he's a beaut.
I tried the travois thing for one of my deer one year.
he was a beast though and it just wasn't happening.
it helped get him a ways farther though.

yup, some guys out there are assholes.
unfortunately, that guy's passing that on to his kid as well.
what a prick.

Good job ignorance is bliss my buddy had a guy help him pull a deer out this year from 1000 yards no quad ... that's how everyone should be

Very nice buck! You shouldn't have had to ask...decent people would have asked if they could help.

There are always people like this in the world. Too bad his son saw the negative side of what a hunter should be like. It wouldn't have taken him any time to load the deer whole on his quad and drive 100yards to the truck. They could have carried on hunting. A few minutes out of their schedule for an ethical act of kindness would have been the sportsman like thing to do. What can I say.....CARMA!!

Great buck! Congrats! Bad things will happen to those two.... Too bad the kid is probably going to grow up to be a shithead, just like his dad. Too bad.

Congrats on a great 4x4. I concur with those who feel the other hunters should have lent you a hand. I can't imagine leaving someone to struggle with a downed animal. At the same time, I'm always a bit surprised when guys decide to drag a deer a kilometre rather than halfing, deboning or quartering it. Sounds like you came up with a pretty good solution, but you may have saved a ton of work with a different strategy.

Again - great buck and nice pics. Well done.

Congrats on a beauty buck!!

Personally, I would always offer to lend a hand....but I also would never ask for someone else to help. If they want to offer, that's great.

I'm with Coach. Dragging deer is for short and/or downhill distances.

Nice buck! Poor etiquette for sure. What a perfect opportunity to show your children an unselfish act of kindness, where the only reward for helping is the satisfaction of helping a fellow hunter!! I field dressed a moose for a guy and his daughter last year and then my son and his best friend and I loaded it into his truck for him. He beat me to the moose by 5 minutes! No sour grapes, that's just what hunters do for each other! Again, beauty deer, way to let the 3 point whitetail go too! Go get him this weekend! Moosin

Hey coach . I actually dragged the whole deer down hill about 200 yrds , then skinned it , cut the head and hinds off then made about few trips . .It was mostly down hill . All that was left to be carried out was front section , when the quad pulled up, I told them that , and the father said my son is a new hunter , so we have to keep hunting .

Nice buck.....son's a new hunter? Well maybe teach him to offer a hand to a fellow hunter as he may need help one day. Dad was probably jealous cause he's a crappy hunter.

mm, had a guy show up at our campsite and ask if i had a tow rope cause his buddy got stuck.I pulled it out and asked if he needed help twice both times he told me no there were lots of guys to help. After he left my 16yr old son said when he grows up he's going to teach his kids to hunt because hunters are nice people.I think i popped a few buttons off my shirt cause i was so proud of my son at that moment.
