Had my last October's South Okanagan Whitetail return from the taxidermists... He's not big and he's not heavy but he's pretty symmetrical and quite handsome!http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c109/HBC/IMG_5217_zps32fcb484.jpg (http://s26.photobucket.com/user/HBC/media/IMG_5217_zps32fcb484.jpg.html)http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c109/HBC/IMG_5216_zpsa67af1c8.jpg (http://s26.photobucket.com/user/HBC/media/IMG_5216_zpsa67af1c8.jpg.html)http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c109/HBC/IMG_5219_zpsdc4e5c9b.jpg[/URL[URL="http://s26.photobucket.com/user/HBC/media/IMG_5218_zps4b18fd63.jpg.html"]http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c109/HBC/IMG_5218_zps4b18fd63.jpg (http://s26.photobucket.com/user/HBC/media/IMG_5219_zpsdc4e5c9b.jpg.html)

Hmmmm congrads on the deer..not so much a fan of the taxidermy work.
I have one of my 2 calies in the same ball park..not trying to be offensive it could have been better done.

That's a very nice okanagan whitetail.
You might want to try to take some pics of the mount from further back and then zoom in. Ever take a selfie from close range? Proportions get distorted.

He's done quite a few mounts for me over the years. I am however taking pictures from my phone and the lighting not the greatest in here. (my office). I will refrain from divulging the name of the taxidermist since he seems to be getting a bad rap here!!! lol I'll give you this, He's very well known and has been doing it professionally for decades... This is another of is work. (my region 5 Mulie)

I don't think it is terrible but from looking at the pic of the mulie his/her work doesn't seem representative with the whitie. From your pics of the whitie there are a few things that don't look right not just one thing a person might not see or over look. It's right horn has the hair/hide brought up higher around the bases than the left. The eye-lid on the right is farther down over the eye-ball than the left and also it looks like the right eye-lid has more black in general and down into its eye duct. I don't have anything in front of me for reference but the eyes seem to have too much brown showing ( pupils are not big enough ). Sorry for critiquing it but that is what I am seeing from your pics and possibly what some others are seeing as well. Like others have said nothing wrong with the rack, congrats.

That sure doesnt look like the same taxidermist's work in the differences between the Mulie posted and the WT.

All that really matters in taxidermy (much like any art form) is that it makes you happy and brings back memories from a hunt. Congrats and thanks for sharing!

Nice deer, I'd have shot in a heartbeat. But to be honest, I think the taxidermist didn't do a good job.

And before anyone jumps on me for saying that, I recently returned a Taxidermy job for similar quality work.

I'm jealous of your hair. I just drank a 6 of Kokanne.....it was delicious. Your WT is a good buck. I was looking all day today and would have shot that in a heartbeat.
Whitetail mounts should be veiwed from the other side of the room with a drink in your hand. Not from 5 inches away. Its all good.

The antlers are too orangey on this moose and I look afraid in this photo because a Grizzly was trying to get at my moose. Not sure it was the right camo as I probably would have got a better moose with larger antlers and less orange with the proper camo pattern. Live and learn..

Look at the neck on that MD, and he killed it with a propane bottle to boot. Obviously he puts his money into actually hunting, not showing off.

bucka
11-19-2014, 05:24 PM
You'd be surprised what one can accomplish with a propane bottle! (20lb tanks work best) It's s versatile as "duck-tape" in catching ducks! Not so much "showing off" as it was simply a blessed Halloween this year and got to use up some tags. I hate wasting tags!!!! (ps, the one on the right has a 30" Spread) http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c109/HBC/photocopy4_zpsb9ed07fe.jpg (http://s26.photobucket.com/user/HBC/media/photocopy4_zpsb9ed07fe.jpg.html) Not the best field dressing but hey, they all end up in the same place, MY BELLY!!!!

This is that kind of thread where we get to pick out the things that aren't the way that "we" would do it ...isn't it ? :-D I've already got flack for that in a previous post. My bad! I was only there for a couple days and by hanging them by the antlers they bleed out enuf to take home, it makes it easier in loading into the truck before I leave and hang them head down in the walk in cooler when I get home. That's all. Nothing more, nothing less. aaaaaand....GO! (and if this offends anybody (and I'm sure it will) , I'm truly sorry!!!) LOL

Pretty much the same thing goes with this Elk I got in the Koots a few weeks ago. It sure was slim pickin's for the time I spent there (4 days of actual hunting) and this was the only one I saw that resembled a shooter so I pretty much had to accept it. Was thinking of mounting it but I'm not all that excited about the short tines, the right 4th and the little top right 6th point. Make an ok coat rack tho?http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c109/HBC/IMG_4950_zps6f1a51c6.jpg (http://s26.photobucket.com/user/HBC/media/IMG_4950_zps6f1a51c6.jpg.html)

Maybe if I take some of the advice some have passed onto me on here and change up the camo pattern a little and put aside the old .270 win. (the ONLY gun I hunt with and I know I know, it's a little light for the bigger game LOL LOL) and pick up a new, bigger and more powerful stainless steel/synthetic super magnum I'd have some better luck and find myself a Booner!!!
