Couldn't be happier with this past weekend of hunting! With hockey season in full swing its pretty rare for my brother and I to get days off to go hunting but this weekend was a perfect time for that to happen.
Day 1 (Sunday)
On the drive into our spot in Region 8-23 we saw around 40 deer spread out in all the fields which really excited my brother, dad and I. All the deer seemed to be up and moving around so hopefully they will be doing the same in our spot. We were definitely right about that. We saw a total of 13 Muley's (6 Bucks, 7 Does) and 4 Whitey's (1 Buck, 3 Does) on our hiking/sitting adventure. And at 12:30, BOOM! My brother dropped this young guy who was chasing a doe in the bottom of a gully we were sitting at the top of. Great way to end the first day!

Day 2 (Monday)
The brother had to be at school on Monday so my dad and I headed back to our spot to try for another Whitey buck or a 4 Point Muley. Not 5 minutes into our hike and we see 3 mule does feeding in a clearing at about 100 yards. We know the rut is just starting up and think there has got to be a buck with these does somewhere. So we wait for about 10 minutes and sure enough, a buck comes walking out of the trees. Unfortunately he was just a little 2 point. So we continued on our hike and only saw 1 Muley doe up until 3:00 when we decided to sit for the rest of the day. Not gunna lie I wasn't expecting to see anything for the rest of the day considering how few deer we had seen, but things change very unexpectedly when you are hunting and I am sure glad we stayed until last light. A half hour went by and I spotted a Muley doe feeding her way down the hill. Then my dad spots another deer in the trees. I slowly put my bino's up...just a fawn. 20 minutes go by as we watch these does and I slowly turn my head to tell my dad something...I look over my dads head and not 30 yards away is a spiker whitey that snuck up on us. He's staring right at us, the wind is blowing right towards him and in no time at all he's running away....Great, I'm thinking to myself. Looks like we just blew it. The Muley doe and fawn didn't get spooked so at least we have something to look at until dark. Another 20 minutes go by as we watch the Muley's...."There's a third deer out there..."I whispered to my dad. I put up my binoculars and I couldn't believe my eyes. This deer came out of no where and didn't look like he was going to stop. I put my gun up and followed him in the scope until he ran behind a small hill in the clearing. I aim my gun at where I think he going to come out behind the hill...10 seconds go by, a deer pops out and stops broadside, my dad puts his binoculars up, "It's him"......BOOM!
