This is my 2014 elk I shot on Sept-11 my dad and I had seen some elk in the area in the summer but not this guy we only seen 5 points and 4 points. In bow season my son and spooked this bull but did not get a good look at him so we left him till rifle season. So on Sept-11 we went back my dad went on one side of the clear cut and I went up the other side about 1 km. Nothing was bugling and I was watching some elk across the valley 9 cows and big bull I let out bugle so see if he would answer. About 150 yards away an elk bugled I cow called nothing. Then I bugled again and 5 min later it bugled but sound like it was along way's away so rather chase him I figured I would go get my dad and use the two person system one bugles and one move on the elk. Well I walked about 50 yard into the bush heading back to my truck then 60 yards away he bugled in front of me. Things were looking up I had the wind in my favor and one peed off bull I could here him running back and forth in front of me but could only see about 30 yards. I would make a very small quite elk bugle pointing my bugle away from him this went on for about 20 minutes I could hear him ripping up some trees so finally I took a big stick and smashed it up against another tree. I guess this what pushed over the point because he then came running right into 22 yards when he came in all I could see this massive rack laid right on his back as weaved in and out of the tree's I counted 6 and it was very easy to see all six points. In my mind I thought this will be my first 300 " net bull. At 22 yards he stopped broad side beside tree all I could see was the top of his shoulder. The Stinging Netal and devils club covered the rest of his body so I put the cross hairs on his shoulder and lowered about 10" and 6" back and fired the 160 Accubond from 7mag I new I hit him hard. He took 5 steps I then shot him one more time same spot then he ran about 15 feet and pilled up I could hear him groaning so I shot him behind the head for a quick kill. He scores 329 gross 322 net next week I can get him officially scored he should make B.C book I now have 4 bulls the gross 300 but none that net 300 its been a great year. My 67 year old dad and I packed him out about 500 yards I was a great day.

Nice bull ! Your story points out how there's a lot more to Elk hunting than being in the right spot at the right time. Well done. :)
