A quality 165 grain bullet using whatever powder that made it group well from the rifle being used.

I'd agree with a 'good' 165 grn factory load if you coudl get a Trophe Bonded (Federal) or even a TSX bullet! TB bullets are not reputed for good accuracy...? But not having shot them, I'd coudln't say for certain.

Good luck.

Factory for my 06 would be a 165gr interbond in the Hornady light mag custom.

For a factory load, I have used the Federal 180 NP in both standard and HE versions with total satisfaction. The HEs are HOT, so, I wouldn't use them in a Win. 95 or autoloader, BLR or breakaction rifle. IF, they show pressure signs in YOUR rifle, use the regular loads, but, they are OK in the rifles I have shot them in so far. VERY good load, sub-moa in my four .30-06s.

only the weak shoot factory ammo, but if I was forced to, it would be Federal premium 165 gr TSX

Remington Core Lokt Ultra Bonded, in 180gr. Save the NPs for gopher hunting.

I'll spin Bartell's comments another way...only the weak shoot non-magnums. 8-)

Sell the POS and get a real rifle.............

Although a 180 Partition load would be tough to beat for a do it all Load in the '06

I use 180grain Federals from WallyMart, to date I have never had a problem, everything drops on the spot.

For Hand loads it would be 180gr Nosler Part. 55grains of IMR43508)

I started asking the same question a little bit ago. I am going to be triing the Federal Fusion 165gr. Good quality bullet that won't brake the bank. The local shop has them for $42/box. I was using the Winchester 165gr soft point but found the grouping is inconsistant.

Everybody knows you need at least a .338 mag shooting the most expensive 250 grain super extra special premium ammo you can find to kill a moose.

I have to go with Bartell on this one. 165 TSX....or 180 TSX, whichever your fire stick prefers.

Doesn't matter! If you hit it with a 180 grain in the vitals from any of the premium bullets and for that matter with any of the factory hunting bullets it will drop.

If I wanted the best it would be Interbonds or TSX if they group well out of your bang stick.

I have used the Federal high energy 180gr. Partitions since their inception....until I started shooting the Federal premium 180 grn. TSX......By far......the best bullet ever made........acurate and good for all game.......

.338 - only for amateurs! Must have a 416 Rem for serious moose hunting to even get through this door. Then we'll talk!

My rifle loves the cheap Federal 180s, for whatever reason they group great. So that'd be what works for me.
