As I just turned 18 in September, the first thing I did was write my PAL and send it in, my question is that if anyone knows if I can legally hunt by myself without Having the card but proof of me passing the course, would be nice to go out hunting as my hunting partner can't hunt for a few days! Thanks!!

Thanks! Just wanted to make sure as I tried to call the CO and no answer, I will do some scouting instead then :)

Well is it possible to hunt with a bow and not have a PAL ? Since it is not a rifle then would not matter, I thought, or does it for some reason ? You are probably talking rifle anyways.

Oh no bad just put another option out there .. To hunt with a firearm you need a pal .. A bow is not classed as a firearm in the criminal code ... But get this crossbows are ...so legally you need a pal if you go with a crossbow...friggin laws they make up

Wow I always thought crossbows would be fine without a pal! Interesting! There's to many laws to keep track of! Ahha

Do you have a hunter number and taken the Core course? I am assuming you have? Just asking because if you do not have a PAL I am thinking you have not hunted before and you need your Core and hunter number to get a hunting licence.

You don't need a PAL to own a crossbow unless it's overall length is less than 500mm (less than 20 inches).
Most crossbows are at least 35" LOA.

I've hunted for 4 years but asking because I sent away my PAL application and waiting for it, I can't hunt for a week because my hunting partner can't hunt this week... Thanks for clearing my question up I will begin scouting my areas until I can get back hunting :)

My bad... Forgot to mention it applys to crossbows shooting. 500 fps or more... Kinda like the same rule
for air guns ... Most compound bows like my pse stinger has a rating of 304 fps
