Hello

So I was hunting in region 3 and I happened upon 2 4 point sheds. This got me really fired up. I didn't manage to see a deer that day but I did find boat loads of sign and I didn't see another hunter all day (on a Saturday in any buck season). So here is my question, what if anything can I deduce from these sheds? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Here are the sheds, beer can for scale.

Similar genetics. One looks like last years and the other appears to be older.

And if you were finding fresh sign, some could be there already...

that deer winter in the area

or that they are there year-round.
I have an area in region 3 where I've found two different 4point sheds on the same day in sight of each other.
and I know these deer are there throughout the summer as well.
not all deer do big migrations.

^^^^^ that's so right, think about it this way they start dropping their sheds starting in Dec... So you know they are in this area late season or very close by ... Finding sheds are exciting.... get back in there and cruise the area and keep at it...I bet you'll find more sheds, the bucks maybe higher or lower depending on what's going on with the weather ... But they are close by. I too have a area that hold resident muleys.. They are smart but be persistent and you will connect... Keep at this area and you will connect I'm sure of it. : )

You know for sure that a 4 point buck once stood there and dropped his antlers.
Kinda looks like a set from what i can see in the pic?

Looks to me like you might have the same deer sheds on that side from 2 years in a row. One is far more dried and sunbleached than the other and they look quite similar. You should head back to that sport and look around for the other sides. Last year I was mule deer hunting and found a complete set of 4X4 with drop tine on both sides less than 10 yards apart.

I had that same thought, the only thing that made me think that they are from 2 separate animals is that the old one is substantially bigger (more mass, wider spread). The pick doesn't show that to well. I don't know how much antler growth is determined by food sources, I am guessing a lot, but for a deer to grow such a smaller rack a year later seems kind of counter-intuitive for me, unless he was regressing. I have seen that term thrown around once or twice on this sight.

Nice find! Maybe they are from two different deer with very similar genetics. Could be likely since they are inhabiting the same area.
