Walked another 100 yards and found spine and ribs of a deer walked another 100 yards and found 2 deer hides both does all edible portions were taken and hides dumped looked like there may have been 3 or 4. Have photos but can't figure out how to post them.

Are Does open under LEH? Maybe someone de-boned their animals and left the hides for the yotes?

That can only mean one thing.

I don't recall much in the way of LEH for does in Region 2. Pretty sure none in Deroche but would have to double check.

There's not much meat on deer rib's, and if the insides weren't washed real clean before hanging, and the outside is all crusty, about the only thing you can do is chuck them. It looks like a big waste of meat, but it's not. From the sounds of it, it's too bad who ever is dumping there animal waste there doesn't find a place a little more out of the way, but maybe that's the closest place around?

Whitetail hides or mulies?

caddisguy
10-19-2014, 09:00 PM
Not many whitetails in Region 2... but that is a possibility... someone could have been getting rid of their scraps from an out of town trip, in which case shooting does might have been legal.

There is LEH for antlerless mule deer and whitetail does are also open at this time. The deer did not necessarily come from this area.

Ya I am sure its either from an out of town trip or some local FN....its Deroche, this isn't out of the ordinary for them parts.

lots of stuff we see appears to us as poaching.
but when there are some people out there who none of our rules apply to, then lots of shit that would otherwise be illegal, now isn't.

First Nations can take does, and it's not considered poaching

When I was at Helmer Lake two weeks ago I came across two doe kills and there were several native hunting so who do you think is shooting them, they have their rights.

2-11 has 2 groups of antlerless LEH permits that are valid for the month of October and November respectively. Don't assume that these deer had to be killed where the hides/rib cages were found.

As has already been pointed out I figured an out of town kill and the hunter just dumped what he/she didn't want from a totally leagal kill

Well I have dumped skins in a region that i shot in a different region? It happens, doesnt mean they were poached

Seeing as you are not allowed to dump carcasses like this at the dump, bones, hides and rib cages out there in the bush to feed the coyotes and other animals seems ok..doesnt it?

Agree with most, don't see anyting wrong with this. We bring pleanty of game including WT does home to Van Isle, butcher and dump bones and hide. The only thing we may do different is dump our bones/waste off the road at least 100m so any non-hunters don't have to see it.

I'm having a hard time finding what the disturbing part was.

So am I. Every year someone comes across some dumped carcasses and right away they assume it's poaching

Can you legally dump the hides of deer? - an honest question because I thought you could not / but some in this thread give the impression that it is ok. Truly, I am curious and am not trying to invite riot.

Absolutely nothing wrong with it. However, it should be done in an intelligent fashion; away from busy roads or residential/recreational areas as it will attract other animals/predators.

Thanks! You're right. I had read note 37 on p.18, and lumped deer under "fur bearing animal"

X 2 good advice. As a hunter and dog owner, its a pita when your dog drags up animal parts that have been convenient dumped in areas others frequent and chances of wild life confrontations are definitely increased.......

I just thought that 3 or 4 deer blacktail was a lot in one area

There is no park in Deroche. There is also a 23 year old by the name of Logan that I have kicked off the property in July. He was bragging about all the grouse and rabbits he shot. He drives a little red car. Our property is posted and goes up the mountain a ways. He was seen on there again. But he ran before we could catch him.

im pretty sure there's no July grouse season, you probably could have reported him and not have him come back the second time, would be pretty easy one would think what with having his name and vehicle description and all...

There isn't a rabbit season either. He has to be caught in the act. Reporting him for bragging wont do it. Not worried. The loader moves cars very easily.
