I would say after years of seeing them and reading. And hearing about them, hunt lower and anywhere in the interior merrit kamloops kelowna anywhere I between, there are tons of pockets of them, good luck

The problem I face being on the island is finding areas to hunt, what is private and what is crown land.its tough without local knowlege, which I greatly appreciate.Anywhere around Merit up to Kamloops would be ideal,we could get the ferry Friday night, drive up and camp and be ready to hunt first thing in the morning-if we knew where to go

On coquihalla between Merritt and loops or the old merrit highway, anywhere left or right side of the highway off of a side road, stay lower in elevation, there are tons of roads just look at a map and take any of them, that's where you go

stoyoma is nearby.
that'd be the direction I'd hunt.

Isn't that all private land? I made that mistake once,(the land was not fenced or posted)the landowner was pretty hostile,so I try to ensure I'm on Crown land

Is there public land open to hunting on the old merrit highway? I'd like to try for a whitetail, never taken one before and coming from the island, this appears to be about the closest place to go.

I didn't mean hunt stoyoma, hunt towards that area.

there is NO public land along 5A.
there's a few roads you can go way up to find crown land.
but 5A isn't a great area for whities.
there's pockets here and there, like almost everywhere, but there's much better areas.
