I just got back from Helmer Lake with the wife doing a little scouting trip and did not see one deer, spook to at lot of other hunters and the same old story they seen nothing to. I came across two doe kills but nothing else and every road we took had enough Coyote shit to make your head shake. Her draw is for November 1 - 15 and now thinking we better find a different place to go, any suggestions ? Did not even see a moose in the area, now thinking maybe Tunkwa for an area to go. Any input would be appreciated.

You should have tried to bag some yotes while you were there. I have a doe draw in 3-17 and have been seeing less and less game as the season goes on.

Lots of deer up in the Helmer Lake area. Lots of hunters too. Just get of off the road a bit and take a short hike into the bush and you will see deer or active deer sign. Seen regularly deer not 100 yards from the road watching the convoys of road hunters passing by.

Hope this helps and best of luck.

yup^^^ what he said.
Took my boy out there this year and spent most of the day out of the truck and on the boots. We saw probably 10 mulie doe's, 2 whitey does, 5 cow moose and one big bull. Oh, and one little buck who is now in our freezer.

Warm weather and the full moon really shortened the morning window and worse on the evening window the past couple weeks.
Need some COLD!

I see 5 mulies a day in 3-19. Most people I see never get out of their truck. Like Othmar said, you have to put boots on the ground and work for it.

Have hunted/scouted that area for past 7 years:
1) Do not hunt on a week-end
2) Get out google map put on topography filter - start by looking around lakes for natural funnels
3) Pick a lake you like and work the area on foot

I have seen more deer in the evening than in the morning:

Hope this helps

In November, even a road hunter will bag a doe in 3-19. Very good chance the first day. This draw is meat in the freezer.

Me and my boys went out there this weekend and last weekend. We saw over 30 mulie does and one mulie buck to quick to get. I am hoping to see a buck soon to get my first deer. Yes we got out and walked lots of bush.

Indeed. A casual walk in a cut-block at mid-day last week I counted no less than 15. From the road, I always see at least a handful. This weekend I saw fewer, but that might have had something to do with the traffic. Total gong show.

Since opening day I've seen probably 80 to 100 mulies, I do spend most of my time in 3-18 but have been up into 3-19 many days, does everywhere!

Yes I agree with the boat theory and did try it a little and yes did find sign, and yes it was a gong show up there, just thought that we would have seen a few.
