I got a nice fat doe yesterday and on the way back,on a logging road at least 10 miles from the nearest house, I saw a full blown male peacock feeding in a cut block, like a wild turkey.Left the damn shotgun at home, which was stupid because it`s turkey season here.
If I see him again today I`ll let you know what a Peacock tastes like.

Peacock tastes just a little less fishy than bald eagle.

They seem to survive very well, there's lots in the Highlands outside Victoria.I once saw a small flock of wild turkeys around Prospect Lake years ago ,but they failed to thrive, why peacocks could survive and turkeys couldn't,I don't know.I understand peacocks are hunted in places like India

I saw two a few years ago on The Island. Kinda regret not whacking one of them, they are said to taste just fine.

A good friend of mine in Gold Creek/Cranbrook tells a funny story about a peacock. She bought it, thinking it would be a nice addition to the farm. She kept it in captivity (in the barn) for a while, while it became conditioned to her, the farm and the other animals. What she wanted was for the bird to live freely on the property. Eventually she felt she and the bird had formed that necessary bond and the day arrived to test the experiment.

She opened the doors to the barn, the bird calmly walked out, and immediately took flight, never to be seen by my friend again. This was about 5 years ago. Still a funny story when we talk about it.

They taste great just like Pheasant. I hunted them over pointers in New Zealand lots of fun. Amazing something so big can hide in the grass. I would never hesitate to harvest a feral peafowl. My brother shot a barred rock rooster out in the bush about 8-9 km's from the closest house. It made great soup.

Nope, not him.The one I saw is all skinned out and pinned to a board drying with borax.Ran across him a mile or so away from the first time.10 miles from the nearest house.
They have white meat, like a chicken. Now I got to fill my Llama tag.

FYI the're Pea fowl. Pea cock is the male and pea hen is the female. A fellow I knew once wrote to a breeder asking to buy some Pea cock eggs. They wrote back that they didn't have eggs that were for sure Pea cocks but could ship Pea fowl eggs and he would have to take his chances as to weather some would be Pea cocks.
