Good news - awesome opening, best in quite a while, dropped three in the first hour.

Bad news - my stock separated from my receiver an hour in and had to bail.

My fifth season and still learning lessons - bring your backup.....

Anybody know a good gunsmith? I assume I can bring it to Wholesale Sports, but wondering if there are any good guys working out of their garage? let me know.......

Try Reliable, they've always done really good work for me.

Did the stock break or did it loosen off the receiver?

popped clean off the receiver - didn't seem loose at all prev, hunted doves a month ago and quail last weekend and it seemed perfectly fine.

That is bizarre. Maybe the threads got stripped from the recoil, but that's highly unlikely. Synthetic or walnut?

synthetic - took a closer look at it and the tube where the spring runs inside - through the centre of the stock - broke loose from the reeceiver

Ah, Remington should fix that under warranty.

Just go buy a back up gun unless Remington's warrantee has changed drasticly you may not see that gun again this season I speak from experience, a friend had issues 3 times finally sold the POS because it was in for warrantee more than in the firld average turnaround time 4 months.

Their Remington 700 recall has taken a real long time, so I wouldn't hold your breath for your 11-87.

Go with a Browning, Beretta, or Benelli if you decide to get a new gun. Or get an older Rem 1100 or 11-87 Premier.

upon closer inspection the tube that runs from the receiver back through the middle of the stock (inside which the spring slides) has separated from where it attaches to the receiver - looks like the brazing/weld failed. On hold with Remington as we speak. Hunted with my 870 this am......

This does not surprise me, Remington has a reputation of slow turn arounds and poor customer service on Warantee work. I know one poor chap whose shotgun was "lost' for almost 8 months. Personally I would demand a refund and get a Beretta, Winchester or Browning.

out of warranty - bought Sept 2012 - I guess I will send it to a local gunsmith.......

Remington is such a cheapskate. Plenty of firearm companies will still send you the part or fix it after expiration, especially if it was something that failed due to the design, not from abuse.
