Don't laugh at me ya bass! I'm a newbie green wet behind the ears duck hunter and have only been out twice... so be gentle!

If is probably going to rain tomorrow and may be foggy too, so are they likely to be flying in the rain?

The worst weather is the best weather for duck hunting, throw in some wind and rain and you will limit out if you can shoot.

Some of my best mallard and widgeon shooting has been in the rain and fog.

Fog can be good and bad. If you aren't where they want to be, its tough for them to find you. Rain and wind are always good. Decoy way better.

You sleep the night before opening day????!!!!! I got 3 hours of sandwhich making, sausage cooking and general joy ahead of me! Lots of time to sleep when the wife is plucking the birds.

The only thing better than rain is snow. The worst the weather the better they fly. Last time out in Alberta it was a blizzard and 40 km winds and they insane. Good luck

Yep the call worked great - Thanks again!

Next question... can someone explain or better yet post a link to a video on "How to clean a duck/goose" I simply breasted them this time... seems like it would be a heck of a time killer to pluck them. What do you experienced guys do? Oh and BTW - served goose, duck, and turkey for the big family Thanksgiving dinner last night... Roasted them in oil and a cup of sherry with some seasoning... it was great and got fabulous reviews!

For me it depends on how many there are to deal with and how many pin feathers. For ducks, If there is a lot I will just breast them out especially early season. As the season progresses I will pluck some fatties. For geese I MAY pluck the odd one, but most are breasted and legged.

AS for plucking, I just pluck in the same direction as the feathers. A group on here has made a plucker that looks pretty rad. For breasting out, I pick enough feathers out to see the skin, cut a small hole, then rip open with my fingers, expose breast then cut it out.

This is where I've been learning from. Also have his book "Duck Duck Goose" which I personally liked.
