Aaaahhhh, so I've been planning to head up north for my first shot at chasing Stones around....but seems I'm only going to have 7 days....not the 10 or so I was planning. So......too far to go? Would it be smarter to head somewhere else that 's closer and spend more time hunting and less driving? If ya had a week, where would you go right now?....Elk, deer, sheep, goat....not in that order. Or F^%$ it and just go....

thanks

OK, I'm catching what you guys are saying....I'm just worried that 7 days was not enough to make it worth it with all the driving.....thanks fellas

i don't know-- but a day to drive up, a day to hike in, a day to hike out, a day to drive down. that's a long way to go for only 3 days of hunting

I agree stay closer. You get 3 days of bad weather and you're out $1000 in fuel.

Personally, I wouldn't go if I only had 7 days. Way too much driving for way too little hunting.

Long way to go for a short hunt, unless:
- You have the cash and gas is no issue
- Your vehicle is in good working order
- You know where your going to hunt when you get there,
- your wife is going with you and you get along.
Would be a great rode trip with a little action (hunting action) in the middle.

Having said that, when I lived in the LML i used to drive to the EK for a weekend hunt.

Don't you have elk to chase in your back yard? U would stay and catch the second estrus

Elk around Lumby are hard to come by. I've had this sheep hunt planned since summer....I hate to see it slip away, but I don't think 7 days is enough to make it worth it....the trip will still be planned for next year. I haven't done the research for an elk trip next week. But that might be the smarter thing to do.......

Maybe the elk is the way to go, so many factors it's hard, if it's planned for next year maybe wait, it has to be the hunt you planned no sense rushing it then it will never be what it could have been

Agreed , its a long way to go , Toad is more like 20 hours
But it is what it is , and if the two or three days will help with a later hunt , or answer some questions that will gnaw at your brain all winter , then it better than sitting at home wishing.

If you have the ability to get out and still hunt after this trip, I would go provided the weather forecast was favourable. That said I wouldn't go if the weather isn't favourable for glassing, especially since you are pressed for time.

If this is your only chance for hunting this fall, then I'd stay more local and maximize my hunting time. Good luck!

Go for it, just be prepared for the worst weather wise. Worst case scenario is you collect info for next year!

Either way you win. Not many places in the world where the consolation prize is a week long hunt in the rockies for elk, deer, and BH.

Goats are open in Reg 2 if you want an adventure. It might rain, a lot, but no snow on the coast.

hey guys thanks for all the replys, valid points all 'round. But I've decided to not go...too short a time and too good a chance of weather screwing me on the few days that I will be there. I did get lucky and a friend/co-worker hooked me up with someone to show me around Invermere for elk and goats, so that's pretty cool . thanks too the fellas that PM'd me with info as well, I'll put it to better use next season

If you aren't going to do anything in those 7 ddays, and gas isn't an issue, then go for it.
Who cares if you only get 3/4 days of actual hhunting, that's like some whole open seasons in other countries.

Let's be real, you'll probably spend those 7 days watching ng Netflix if you don't go
