Hi looking for newer info on the sat phone everything seems to be older. Wondering if there has been any new information regarding global , spot or anything else out there. Leaning towards the old global refurbished as a spot.

For a sat "phone" Irridium is the only way to go. I have had issues with SPOTs "sending" messages but the receiver not getting them (not all the time but still....inconsistent)

the initial cost of an inreach is only $300 at MEC----$70 per mo. for unlimited use, and you can turn it off in the off season and only pay $3.00 per month--can't beat the price

We use both the globalstar sat phones and inReach at work. The globalstar seems better than it was 5 years ago but it is still very spotty. It always seems to work eventually but you have to be patient. It also drops calls frequently which is very annoying.

The inReach is great in my opinion. The messages get out quickly and responses come quickly. We use a much cheaper plan that is only 25 a month. It gives you 40 text messages a month. If you exceed this it is 50 cents a text. Highly recomended.

Iridium sats cross the planet north to South, global star east to west. Generally iridium is best further north you go.

I also use the inReach. I do hunting / fishing and 4x4ing.. I've had for a about a year and use it at least 1 once a month just to keep in touch.. so far so good.
used in the chilliwack lake area, Nimpo Lake, and Harrision lake.
lot cheaper than a SAT phone. also one button for SOS if the need comes.
