We're heading up to 7-28 for a moose hunt,October 3 for a week but I'm wondering what the whitetail/mule deer deer populations are?My two boys have a shared LEH "any bull"tag ,but there's 5 of us and a chance at something else would be nice.
also,we're coming in south from Vanderhoof ,so I assume that would be gravel FSR after that, not sure what to expect for road conditions. We're using a GMC 3500 4x4hauling my hunting trailer

Lots of gravel, expect the roads to be in bad condition but hope for them to be good. Hunted that area for 3 seasons didn't see a single deer let alone a track, moose, bears and wolves, there are deer in neighbouring units but as far as I know there are none in 7-28

Buy bear tags & Stop off at williams lake on your way back for some deer action ;-)
Good luck

Ive seen mulies but no white tails. Doesn't mean they arn't there. Not alot of deer but if you hunt the open ridges in areas and some of the newish cuts you will find them.

Deer are where you find them around there. RBF, where I suggested to go, there is not much there other than moose and bears. Carry a MD tag as you can use it on the Island etc. but don't spend any time looking for them.

You will get gravel, but it will be on the other side of "The Fort".

I'm heading up there too with some buddies and my 10 year old son. (his first moose trip) I don't mean to hi-jack this thread, but my question may be useful to ratherbefishin as well. Does anybody know where the nearest gas station to tchentlo lake is?

Fort St. James, fill up there at the Petro Can.

Do you have a boat? Are you going to do the nation river?

You drift down the river from the bridge... just make sure you can make it back up. It is very beautiful. There are tons of fish in there too... Rainbows, bulls, and arctic greyling.

We have the fly rods ready to go! Can't wait! Looks like an awesome place. Can you get to the river from tchentlo lake, or do you launch from the bridge?

Gotta launch from the bridge. I believe there is falls. Im not sure though. The river gets too wide and shallow for our boat to go up passed the bridge very far.

Thanks for the info! Looks like a few good spots for a hike as well!
