Hey guys wondering what you use for vac sealers. I bought my grandfather one from Costco for Christmas and was really unimpressed trying to seal a bunch of sockeye this summer. The one I got from Costco 3 years ago works excellently but his is a dud. So just wondering what you all use, should we put out big bucks for a Weston or does the Cabelas commercial sealer work. Thanks for the info

I've been using this for 7-8 years now. I believe I got it at London Drugs model 1205 FoodSaver.
Honestly I don't remember how much it cost me but I would say not more than $200.
It has worked for me swimmingly. Mind you I've never sealed more than say 200 lbs of things a year.
There is another thread started by srupp and he breaks two food savers a day with the amount of meat he has to process.
So it all depends on the amount of sealing you have to do and the budget.
Of course a commercial grade food sealer will always last longer.

I recommend the Vacmaster VP112. Expensive, heavy, cumbersome, but quick, selectable, cheaper bags, and lots more you can do with it. This thing can seal two bags at a time (assuming correct sizing and placement), has a double seal bar, and lets you choose the vacuum amount.

The Cabelas unit is made by Weston and has a few more bells and whistles but the same guts. They are excellent units and the best part is you can buy all the parts from Weston should a seal or motor etc wear out. I've had my Weston for 3 years sealing hundreds of pounds of fruit, game and fish with out a disappointing result. They are work horses. I buy my bags in bulk out of the U.S. I have the seal replacement kit but haven't had to replace anything on the unit. Highly recommend it..... Unless you have $1000 plus to invest in a chamber sealer.

Foodsaver VAC 1060 had it for 10 + years, never a problem.
Did 10 sockeye in one sitting, a deer in another and tons of stuff in between.

I will never buy one of the POS foodsavers again............3 years 5 machines
I spent the money on a Weston commercial grade and have never looked back

Just looked at that Cabela sealer and it is NOT a Weston manufactured product. I'd be very leery of buying that one. These are a new line for Cabela as it looks like they no longer carry the Weston product. I'd want to know who makes it for them....

If you want commercial grade gear and you live in lower mainland go to Stuffers they have good stuff.

I picked up a LEM MaxVac Vacuum Sealer (model 1088A) and could not be happier...It has a manual vac function, does not overheat and will crush cans with the best of 'em...They are $449.99 normally, but every couple of months you can get one for 10 percent off, which puts it at $404ish...Good price for a great product!

This is what I picked up after going through 2 P.O.S. Foodsavers from Cabelas in 7 years.
This Weston model Pro-2100 does bags up to 15" wide, $470. USD.
The Sausage Maker's shipping to Canada is reasonable.
The Weston bags in bulk from these guys is reasonable as well.

Hey guys thanks for posting all the good reviews, I did end up picking up the Cabelas Commercial Vac Packer for 399. First off it doesn't work with Foodsaver bags. But with Cabelas bags it is an excellent sealer. I did a bunch of chicken and beef and was impressed, but only time will tell how long it stands up for.

Hmmm chamber sealers.all those professional machines ..joke..use oiless ceramic pistons..hmm longevity aint in their brochures.also they suck contents out of the bag...chokes the heater bar.

I chose the Vacmaster 215 chamber sealer...with 1,000 bags 4mm for $1100..seperate cycle for removing air from chamber, heater bar time and cooling time...46 seconds per bag.It has a oiled motor an weighs 100 pounds..comercial continuos operatipn..in like professional .On bag 3 Susan took over..easy peasy,100% fast professional complete double seal.sure beats fighting plastic wanna be..
Stainless steel..oiled motor quality..pronghorn,2 deer hopefully elk plus fish .
Doing some sausage up will do photos..I forgot the price the moment the first bag was done..
Same as in German stuffer machine, or mixer or 1 1/2 hp grinder..proper tools.

Because the entire chamber empties of air no contents are sucked anywhere..air evacuates refills the bag has been resealed..done.

Big 11 x15 bags for roasts 4 mm thick are under 9 cents each versus 30 cents for 1mm rolls for cheap errr inexpensive costco professional sealers..go chamber vacs..imo
