Heading on a family trip from Vancouver Island to the south east. Bringing my rifle along for the road trip. I hear there are some nice elk herds in Sparwood/Elk River area and nice White Tail around Invermere. Any advice or help would be appreciated. Never hunted this area before. Thanks in advance......

Counted some herds of near 200 elk around Sparwood... in February.

They are still up high. Get into the hills and explore. There is no elk-free areas in the entire region. Great white tail up the Columbia Valley and plenty of Elk and Mule Deer too.

The locals in those areas kill every 6 point before the coasties get there.

quite a few elk are being taken up the elk valley past elkford right at the moment.
I know of 4 taken in the last week, two in my immediate family.

How about area 4-9 any good ideas for hunting up there

I was just in the east koots for a week of hunting and there are plenty enough deer and elk to hunt. We thought we were in a great valley only to find out the locals had given two 6 points a dirt nap in the that valley in the first two days of the season. So I think what Fisher Dude said has some merit, we had to find some valleys and drainage's that were a little more "inconvenient" for the locals. Get off the beaten path and you should find some critters. Good luck!

Thats exactly what it is...... BS. I have personally seen 14 legal bulls and 20 smaller bulls since the 7th of September. There are tons of legal bulls and there will still be lots of legal bulls after the season is over.

thanks for the info guys, where should I focus my time on in Sparwood then, out past Elkford? And what about white tail or mule deer areas around Invermere?
