So this past weekend with the help of my dad, fowl language and a landowner, I was finally able to get my first big game animal. I've been hunting mostly waterfowl for a little over 10 years and this was only my second time hunting for big game. I passed on a small black bear Saturday afternoon and then that night I got a spike blacktail buck in Region 2. I was incredibly nervous and was shaking pretty bad so I missed him 3 times and then got him on my 4th shot. We both thought he was hit well as he went down right away, but then he popped his head up. Upon walking closer we found I ended up spining him,so he had to be shot again. Not the best outcome, but he was put out as soon as possible.
He was completely out of velvet which we thought was a little strange as 2 years before, my brother had shot a spiker in the exact same area only a couple days before mine, that was in full velvet. He was in great shape and was just starting to loose his summer coat. He also was quite fat so he will be quite tasty! I can taste the drunken deer roasts now :)
Some pictures to come as soon as I figure out how to get them onto here and fowl language, thanks for telling us where to go and for letting us stay at your place. I have a case of diet cherry Pepsi for you :)
