Does anyone know where I could find pics of lifesize bear mounts and prices for lifesize mounts of grizzly bears. The pics need not be from B.C. taxidermists, they could be personalpics, just looking for ideas. The prices are for B.C. shops. Thanks!

He was a big bad *******,my little son and daughter wouldn`t go in the room for weeks! This one almost got me,I had to trail him in thick willow cover,I have no idea why he was still alive after the first 2 shots, both thru the shoulder and lungs. They sure are tough. And scary.

Sounds about right. I think my buddy paid ~$3200-$3500 in 2001. Depends on the size of the bear.

Sawmill-I'd love to do a mount like that but I'm sure my kids would feel the same as yours did....probably my wife as well:roll: ......

Sawmill,
While I often don't "take" to the open mouth pose on Bear mounts.....I will say yours looks very well done :)

I agree Will. Sawmill's looks great despite being 20 yrs old!

What's even more unrealistic looking than just snarling bears are the 4 1/2' snarling black bears that my taxidermist mounts for a lot of European hunters shot with G/O's . No matter how good the taxidermy is something just ain't right about a snarling cub:roll: .

Great input from everyone on the page. If you're looking for a high quality full mount on a grizz 9'+ you're looking anywhere between $3500-5000 depending on what type of form you want him standing on such as rocks, driftwood etc. I know the mount usually is made to resemble the look of the animal the minute before you shot him, but i did see this grizz mount with a salmon in its mouth! It looked amazing sorry no pics but just a thought on the topic. Harley White does great work but expect 2-4 years turn around time. cheers.

2-4 yrs turn around time for Harley??
He usually is less than one year, sometimes a little more. My buddy told him to take his time with his life-size grizzly and made payments for a couple of years. Occassionally, he takes longer for a life-size if he has to get in some special material or is waiting for a new form to come out.
He doesn't like having any carry-over from the year before when new animals start coming in and will adjust his staff to stay within those time frames.

Yeah, worst time frame ive had from Harley was about 13 months - he was super busy and for his quality of work I can say its worth the time. Apparently hes best known for sheep, but ive gotten two muley heads done and both are amazing.

Stesorry to stir up the can o worms my man. When i took in my full mount on my goat which was 5 years ago now it did take nearly 2 years to get back. I know my uncle also spoke with Harley and Harley himself said that if he wants to get his Grizz back within 2 years it would be hard pressed so he just told Harley t get to it when he could and approx 3 1/3 years later Harley gave him a dangle and t was ready. Sure it was at a discounted cost and both my goat and te grizz are top knotch work. He's the best around now...... Just wish Jack Farris was still around. Anyone have any moounts from him? cheers.

The guy i use does a pretty good job. He has some wicked sheep mounts in his house as well. I've got no complaints with my new mount, i think its the best looking one of the 3.

Yeah, looks nice Matt. Does anyone know why some taxis put the deers forward behind vs infront of the ears? Dont mulies put their eats infront of their horns when they hear somethin?

I know you can pin em back if you want spread ot look bigger, but thats clearly not the case with Matts bucks.

Matt - Do you goto OC?

I need to know how they scored.

MattB
03-16-2007, 03:01 PM
I think the taxi put the ears like that to give the impression that they are listening to somthing. A lot of deer i have seen while still hunting are constantly twisting their ears into all sort of positions.

Agaucher-Im going to UNBC right now. I was at TRU for the previous 3.5 years.

Mr. Dean-The middle buck is the biggest, he went just under 184". The other big typical goes just under 180" and the smaller widest buck was shot by my brother and I in 2002. I never scored him, but i would guess in the mid 160's and is just under 28" wide. There's gonna be another addition to "The Wall" in a couple weeks, my brother needs to pick up his 202" double dropper 8-) .

my full size mount on my goat is under my pictures on here. as for the grizz i'll have to go take some snaps and put them on here. I reall ylike my full mount of my goat it's very impressive and realistic sitting on a stone form. Looks great, we live on the lake here in kelowna and we have a beach access by our place so the people who sit on the beach access look in our place and see a full size mount of a goat, from then on it's been called the "Goat Beach House" haha cheers Stone Sheep Steve.

Another thing I forgot to mention is that most Taxi`s do good work on deer elk ect. bur bears are very hard to do right without making them look phony or dorky because they have an expresive face. It`s the differance between getting your favourite cow mounted and your best dog.My taxi in Terrace specializes in bears cause thats what he mostly gets in his shop.Britton taxidermy in Smithers is pretty good but twice the price and a bit of an asshole(imho)Debbie Nelson in Quesnel is damn good on bears, tell her Joe from Hazelton sent you and she will cut you a deal.I guided her to a 10+ monster that she mounted full taking down a young sheep and she won best of show in a Taxi contest in Las Vegas.
