back from Elk hunting. it has been very disappointed. But I still had a blast. I've saw 1 big bull moose, 1 bear, 23 bucks. 4 have been 4 points. 1 was at 608 yards 2 over 500 and the last one was a 100 yards.

I noticed a 2 point. I watched him for a couple minutes. Then looked to left and saw a big buck. I look with my binos he has 2 stickers on either side and then he bolted I had no time to shoot. He was easily the biggest buck I've seen to date.
Then yesterday I was walking up a slash and just as day break I noticed an elk about 200 yards away in the slash. I put my binos on him and looked. Big bull I started counting points and all I could count was 5 on each side I couldn't quite see if he had the 6th. Then all of a sudden I herd a bugle from above and the bull bolted toward it. Awesome I thought to myself another bull in the area. Then a big bang. **** **** I said.
I walk back to the truck and drive to the top road where a local hunter stops me saying he shot a 6x6. Dam it was my bull dead. Boy was i disappointed. I had to make sure he was legal and I couldn't.
So I offer to help him drag and load him up. Well he gave me the heart and liver and a backstrap for helping him. Great guy.

The elusive elk has still been my kryptonite. Maybe one day I'll harvest one

Don't worry bro that one is weak on the left side ... everything happens for a reason , that reason is good ethics will payoff ... and there is a kranker in your near future

Keep up the hard work, It WILL payoff ... you are clearly on the right path

There ya go, a bull without cows will come into a bugle very easily, if he had cows, he may have bugled back at the hunter, or just left with the cows without a peep.
Sorry that it happened to you, hopefully you will have luck sometime soon!
My Father once hiked way up some steep **** all day in the east koots for bighorn.
Sees some rams moving up the ridge across from him, he watches them for a half hour deciding if they were legal.
Just as he lines up to shoot...boom, on the same ridge the sheep were on, 3 hunters were there watching the same rams....
Go figure, in the middle of nowhere my father was, and yet so close to others in a not so accessible area for sure.
It wasn't as if these rams were even spottable from some vantage point in the valley, in fact , quite a ways back from any roads etc.
I'm certain this happens often such as in your case, but it still sucks!
Atleast the season ain't over, and it sounds like you saw some game, which never makes a trip feel like a loss for sure.
Good luck the rest of the season!

I bet the hunter that got him had Vortex  LOL.

Shitty luck but sounds like you saw lots of game and got a few steaks for helping out. Sounds like a fun time

Actually his binos where vortex. But he was 40 yards away from the bull. And I asked him about them and he hates them been sent in 3 time for warranty. vortex isnt even in the same league as swarovski swarovision:mrgreen:

Time for a spotting scope I think. Binos can only count 5 usually.

Sorry to hear of the near miss Mike - but it sounds like you encountered a fair amount of game. Are you going out again this season?
