Spear and I are heading to Fort Nelson in 4 days for stone's. Everyday I find myself adding a little more gear. batteries, ammo, clothes, food, water bladders. I guess my question is has the good idea fairy ever payed off. or has it just added to everyones pack weight. Would love to hear from some experience maybe help me shed those added pounds without loosing sleep over my choices. Thanks ahead of time.

After a long day with a million frustrating nears misses chasing bucks, my rifle sling broke and went barrel first into a mud hole. Used water and my bore snake to clear it out and used a shoe lace to rig my starp back up. That day sucked. It payed off to have a bore snake and shoelace, which I always carry

I cut a finger off a rubber glove and rubber band it on the end. Be sure to remove it before I fire so the bullet doesn't stretch out 30yards and come flying back at you

You can buy barrel condoms, el cheapo.

I don't think I have any advice to keep a pack light. Kitchen sinks weigh a lot, and I take 2 in case one breaks.

Take a couple beer

just make sure you put them in your partner's backpack - don't tell him.

Shed the 'extra' weight. Almost every hunt I come back from I shake my head and wonder why I didnt even USE a ton of the items I brought. Sure, there are things you need for safety/security/comfort, but more often than not I'd bet you can yank em from your pack and still be fine.

Good luck on the sheep hunt!! Weather should be moving them around a bit I'd imagine.

Lifestraw paid off. Bought last minute before hunt this year. Weighs only 2oz, only cost $20, no more need for tablets or heavy filter. Can drink through it straight out of source or from bottle.
I always seem to have unused clothes when I come back...

I recommend two beers, one small bottle of whiskey and a pound of sour candy.

If you are still strong enough, carry the good idea stuff. When you are weaker, get a stronger partner - or a third and keep carrying the good idea stuff...

Use these or electrical tape, not finger cots that you get from the drug - they split way too easily.

It may not be the biggest one in the world, but if it were in your mouth, you wouldn't be able to tell me to take it out! ;)
