Got home late last night very worn out spent all day long sectioning skinning packing my 5x5 bull elk out almost killed me packing
it out solo.
There is an incredible story behind this elk hunt shot the ball at 7.50 am up in my self climbing tree stand cow called this bull in with a reed call
got the finely quarter.
back to my truck at 6pm 6 trips over 1/2 back in the woods up and down country I am so stiff this morning every mussel is sore
this morning ,,lots of good video clips and pic story to be put up latter when I get some time its not a big bull but at least its my first bull with
my x bow I broke the ice..

When I shot at this bull for behind the shoulder I got is juggler vain he finally bleed to death after he had gone about almost 1/2 k before he hit
the ground I then noticed that when I went to put a bolt in my x bow that one limb had cracked that's why my bolt did not hit the elk
where I was aiming..
God was with me on this hunt..

I am upset that my bow season for deer is done I don't have a replacement limb for my maximus x bow

Great job and a fine animal Wayne, congratulations! I've heard of several crossbow limbs breaking the last few years, maybe the makers are trying to put more power into their crossbows and the material isn't up to it? Glad it turned out well! :-)

I just have a question...why the shot gun ? Is there a concern with grizzly in the area ?

He was probably hoping to pop a couple grouse while he was packing out his elk...

But yes, my guess is grizz defence. Not many places without them around here.

nothing beats a plan coming together.
what a job, that elk was well-earned by the sounds of it.
I probably would have left my stand in there for another trip after all that packing.

Saw this earlier but didn't have time to comment. Awesome job Wayne! You're an inspiration to all of us who aspire to take quality animals. Especially those of us a little longer in the tooth. All your scouting and conditioning work allow you to experience your successes even when your equipment doesn't function exactly as it should.Lugging that big boy out is no easy feat. I was helping a friend with his roof a couple of weeks ago and humped 3000# of shingles up in an hour's time and it's just getting back to normal now.

Looking forward to the rest of the story and the pics.

Congratulations Wayne. I agree with your comment about the work, I don't think enough elk/moose hunters consider extraction (getting the animal out) when the hunt. When we bowhunt, they don't always die where we hit them, and that means a lot of work. Elk extraction is very tough work solo. What kind of broadhead were you using?
