Hello all... Been doing a little recon in the kamloops area for an upcoming hunt end of sept. Last year we did not fare well as i think we were too low for the big muley bucks (3500 ft) end of sept. We had a couple little bucks (spikes an 2 points) around but nothing legal. We did manage to find a couple nice bucks at dusk in the cut blocks around 5500ft. I really love to hunt the doug fir transituon areas where the grass meets the fir but think this hunt might be to early for that. Am i fooling myself hunting down low so early or is it just a matter being persistant.
Any thoughts?

Persistency will not hurt just keep grinding you will run into one sooner or later I saw one the other day at around 4000ft I'm sure there are some crankers lower and higher just a matter of time :)

There are lots of big bucks that never leave the Douglas fir forest lower down.

All the biggest bucks I've ever seen were darn near alpine or in the ugliest country where hunters don't want to go - ridges, outcroppings, ravines & slopes walk-in only off the beaten track.

Or in the middle of a farmer's hay field - no hunt, no trespass! :-P

In the alpine or in my front yard.
